When new games come out, you can always expect them to run flawlessly or run terribly. If you’re lucky enough, the game is just running well enough so you can play (looking at you, The Last of Us Part I on PC).

PC gamers are used to getting this treatment, which is why there are so many results on the internet about people posting their issues on games that are not able to run on their PC.

In this guide, we will be focusing on getting fixes for a game that just recently released, Terra Nil.

Fix Fatal Error, Crashing, Black Screen & Infinite Loading – Terra Nil

Things You Can Do

Terra Nil may not look like a graphically demanding game, but that doesn’t mean issues won’t pop up. Sometimes, it’s not even the game that’s the issue, and it’s your PC that can’t handle it.

However, before we go ahead and order some new upgrades to your PC or get a refund, here are some methods you can try that can help solve your issues:

  • Restart your PC – This is the first thing you should try when experiencing issues with games after installing them. This is usually to help your PC stop all processes that are running in your background so that when the PC comes back up, you won’t have any applications clashing with the game.
  • Verify integrity of the files (Steam only) – This is only available on Steam. Sometimes, something happens when you are installing the game. Missing files, corrupted files, or maybe even incomplete files. The best way to resolve this is to verify the integrity of the files, allowing Steam to re-download and replace all affected files.
  • Launch the game as Administrator – This gives the game-high priority over other applications. However, you will need to open the install folder and look for the .exe file, and right-click on it. You will then see the Run as Administrator option.
  • Launch the game with Windows Compatibility mode – Some games don’t run well on newer versions of Windows. That’s why there is an option to run the game like it’s running on Windows 8 or Windows 7.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the game – If all else fails, you can just reinstall the game. Terra Nil isn’t that big of a game anyway, so reinstalling shouldn’t take that long (unless you have very slow internet).
  • Update graphics card driver – Another thing that you can do is update your graphics cards. And I don’t mean go out and buy a new GPU, I mean update the driver for your GPU. Nvidia and AMD have software that allows you to download the latest update for your GPUs. Or you can simply go to their websites and download the update there.
  • Update Windows – If all else fails, then maybe your Windows just isn’t up to date. Sometimes, not updating your Windows can lead to a lot of application failure. Having the latest updates of Windows certainly helps fix those issues, including games.

If all of those don’t help, then I suggest doing a clean Windows install. But only if you haven’t done it in the last six months.

A clean Windows install helps get rid of malware and other viruses that your antivirus can’t detect, which is usually the case when you are experiencing issues that force the game to stop working correctly.
