Terraria 1.4.4: Guide To Shimmer

Terraria 1.4.4 is finally here and it is way better than what we have expected! It brings with it a very cool new liquid and lake that is called the Shimmer. In this guide, we will be explaining it a bit about how it works and what you can do with it. Let’s get started.

If you didn’t already know, the Shimmer is the new liquid that just got recently added into Terraria with the newest patch. To find it easily, you will need to go inside any Aether cave that can randomly spawn in your world. They are not extremely rare and you can find them occasionally in your game.

The only way to pick up the Shimmer is with a sponge. The buckets won’t do anything and it doesn’t work. This means that moving it around might be a little difficult. Like any other liquid, the Shimmer has a special interaction with water. If you combine them, you will get Aetherium Blocks.

The big thing to know about them is that if you jump inside one lake and keep falling, you will end up going through the wall. You will float through the wall until you reach an open surface inside the cave. This can be dangerous because you might be flying inside a lava surface.

Many items that will be dropped inside will turn into different other items. There is our top list of what items you will be getting the most:

• Star Cloak – If you have on a Chromatic Cloak, Shimmer Phasing won’t hurt you. You can hold down to Phase while in the Shimmer.
• Bottomless Water Bucket – You can get a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket if you drop a Bottomless Water Bucket in Shimmer. If you soak the Bottomless Shimmer Bucket to Shimmer, you will get the Bottomless Water Bucket.
• Sundial of Magic -If you drop an enchanted Sundial, you can get an enchanted Moondial. Unlike the Sundial, which can move time forward to the next day, it moves time backwards.
• Angel Statue – The Aether Monolith will make the same kind of effect as being in the Aether biome. When you are near big pools of Shimmer, it can also turn off the effects of the Aether biome.
• Platinum Coin – If you drop a Platinum Coin in Shimmer, it will go away. But you can get a coin buff that makes it easier for you to get coins.
• Crystal of Life – When you put a Life Crystal into Shimmer Liquid, it changes into a Vital Crystal, which makes your life regeneration better for good.

• Life Fruit – When you drop the Life Fruit into the Shimmer Liquid, it changes into the Aegis Fruit, which gives your defense a permanent boost.
• Mana Crystal – When you put it in the Shimmer Liquid, it changes into an Arcane Crystal that increases your mana regeneration in a stable way.
• Spell Tome – By soaking it, you can get Advanced Combat Techniques: Volume Two. It will make everyone stronger and give them better defense.
• Golden Worm – You can make a Gummy Worm by putting this into the Shimmer Liquid. It gives you a permanent advantage when fishing.
• Peddler’s Hat – By putting the Peddler’s Hat in Shimmer, you can get the Peddler’s Satchel. With this item, the Traveling Merchant will always be able to sell more items.
• Pink Pearl – If you put a Pink Pearl in the Shimmer Liquid and let it sit there for a while, you can get a Galaxy Pearl that will permanently make your luck better.
• Fruit – Ambrosia can be made by letting any fruit soak in the Shimmer Liquid. Mining and building can be done faster in a permanent way.
• Clentaminator – When the Clentaminator is put into the Shimmer Liquid, the Terraformer, a better version, comes out.
• Rod of Conflict – The Rod of Harmony is better than the Rod of Discord because it doesn’t hurt you when you teleport.

Here is another couple of things that you should know for the Shimmer:

• Dungeon Bricks change into Ancient Dungeon Bricks, which look like the original bricks
• Dungeon Brick Walls turn into Cursed Dungeon Brick Walls, which can be used to spawn enemies like natural walls
• If you drop coins instead of doing nothing, you get a luck bonus.
• Each world has one Aether cave on the Jungle side.
• In Shimmer, you can only make a Bottomless Shimmer Bucket after you beat Moon Lord.
• Pumps can be used to move the water before it gets to the Shimmer bucket.
• The Peddler’s Hat changes into the Peddler’s Satchel, which increases the Traveling Merchant’s inventory permanently.
• Depending on the phase of the moon, a Luminite Brick changes into one of eight other types of bricks.

You can also use the Shimmer liquid to interact with different types of NPCs. For example, you can drop on them with the sponge and then see them transform. You can also transform the townfolk! This doesn’t do anything special, but it is sure fun to do.

You can also drop items inside and it will Uncraft them. Yes, you read that correct. It will give you all the components that you used to craft a certain item. Very good indeed!
