NPCs in Terraria can be very useful in the game, I remember when I first played the game and we just placed them all in a wooden apartment building not knowing anything about their happiness. Sometimes it’s annoying to babysit these NPCs especially when they die and they go to a room you don’t want them to go but the benefit of them staying outweighs the annoyance. So, here’s a guide on the most efficient NPC housing based on their preferences.
Most Efficient NPC Housing Based On Their Preferences | Terraria
First, what constitutes a house for the NPCs? Well, a house can actually just be one 5×12 room with background walls. It also needs a door, furniture like a table and chair, and light sources. All of these elements must be player placed so that the NPC will know it’s built for them.
Each NPC also has a particular biome that they like to be in, as well as only wanting one neighbor.
To make it even more confusing, some NPCs don’t like other NPCs, so usually, it’s up to the players to find the correct place for the correct NPCs without clumping 3 of them together in one place.
As you can see above, the image doesn’t even cover all the relationships in the game because there are some love-hate relationships between two NPCs and there are some NPCs that like one but the one they like don’t particularly like them. You can tell that this is getting a bit confusing.
So why are you doing all of this for the NPCs? Why not just place them inside one giant apartment complex? Well, it’s because the higher the happiness of the NPCs the more stuff you can buy from them, their prices get better and they even give you a Pylon!
Pylons can be very useful to the player because they serve as fast travel spots in the different areas of the game where the NPCs are, so it’s good to get the NPCs’ good sides.
Now that you’ve got the information you need to start pairing NPCs to biomes and other NPCs, go out there and make those houses!
