The latest update in TYPE://SOUL brings a massive new area to explore: Hell: Ring 1. But before you can set foot in this terrifying new region, you’ll need to complete a few essential steps. This guide walks you through exactly how to unlock Hell, from finding the NPC near the basketball court to completing a short questline in The Highway To Hell and beating a powerful boss.
If you’re looking to push your character’s progression and experience the newest endgame content, here’s everything you need to know!
Requirements: How to Start the Hell Quest in Type Soul
Before you can enter Hell, your character needs to meet a few conditions. Most importantly, you must have unlocked one of the following elite-level power-ups:
- Bankai (for Soul Reapers)
- Full Res (Resurrección, for Arrancar)
- Volt (for Quincy)
In addition to these, your character must have reached Elite Grade, which is required to access this part of the game.
If you don’t meet these requirements, the gate to Hell will remain sealed and the NPC that starts the quest won’t interact with you.
Where to Find the Hell NPC
Once you’ve met the requirements, head to the basketball court in Karakura Town. This area is just across the bridge and directly in front of the Trader NPC.

Walk over to the right side of the court, and you’ll find a new quest NPC standing near the edge. Speak to him, and if you meet the requirements, he’ll teleport you to a new area called The Highway To Hell.
The Highway To Hell Quest – Step-by-Step

The Highway To Hell is a dark, winding zone filled with eerie visuals and a lurking danger. It’s here that you’ll need to complete a short questline before you’re allowed to enter Hell: Ring 1.
Step 1: Collect Crystals

Once you spawn into the Highway, look for another NPC who serves as the quest giver. From the entrance, head to the right side to find him. The area is very dark, so turn up your screen brightness if needed.
This NPC will assign you a task: collect 4–5 glowing crystals scattered around the cave.
Here’s what to know:
- You’ll get a crystal icon notification on your screen when you’re near one.
- The crystals glow slightly, but can still be hard to see in the dark.
- There’s a large roaming monster in the area. It doesn’t chase you, but it’s best to steer clear.

The cave is small enough that you can memorize it in one or two full loops. After gathering the crystals, return to the quest NPC. He’ll vanish once the first task is complete.
Step 2: Find the NPC Again
Now your next task is simple. Find the NPC again somewhere else in the cave. He has moved to a new location, and you just need to track him down.
There’s no new danger introduced in this part. Once you locate him, the quest finishes automatically.

You’ll know you’ve completed everything when:
- Your screen flashes purple
- The “hand” UI effect disappears
You’re now ready to unlock the gate to Hell: Ring 1.
Finding and Unlocking the Hell Gate

With the quest complete, head deeper into the cave until you find a hole in the wall. Go through, and you’ll eventually come across a large, sealed stone gate.
- If you haven’t done the Highway quest, the gate will remain locked.
- Since you’ve now cleared it, the gate opens and reveals a new chamber inside.
This is where the real challenge begins.
Gatekeeper Boss Fight
Behind the gate, you’ll face a boss that guards the way into Hell. This enemy is tough and may catch unprepared players off guard.

The best strategy to defeat this being is to cheese the boss with long-range Kido attacks, which is a valid option if you want to keep things safe. You’ll still need to be cautious. This fight is no joke.
Once you defeat the boss, you’ll receive a Book Fragment, and a cinematic sequence will trigger with the message:
“The gates were disturbed… Hell let loose.”
You’ll then be teleported to Hell: Ring 1.
Welcome to Ring 1 of Hell
Congratulations! You’re now in Hell: Ring 1, the first layer of this new zone. It’s noticeably darker, more sinister, and likely the start of deeper content coming in future updates.

While this guide covers everything currently available, future updates may introduce Ring 2 and beyond. For now, explore what Ring 1 has to offer, and be ready for whatever horrors lie ahead.
