With the recent update to Verse Piece, two exciting new races have been introduced: Contractor and Shadow. In this guide, I’ll explore the unique abilities, strengths, and quirks of each race, so you can make the most of your gameplay, and learn how to use or go against them. Whether you want to deal massive damage or take (and deal) literally no damage, I’ve got all the details you need to learn about the two new races! Spoiler: the Shadow Race is hella bugged right now…
Contractor & Shadow Races Guide + Showcase
Contractor Race
Alright, let’s kick things off with the Contractor Race. This race is all about making damage work for you—seriously. Here’s the deal: whenever you take damage, you stack up a Contract, represented by a purple skull. And once you’ve gathered four contracts, things get crazy: you trigger a powerful explosion that does 20% of your max health in damage to nearby enemies AND heals you. Sounds pretty sweet, right?
As you can see, this race isn’t just about tanking hits—it’s about turning the tables! Not only can it survive, but it dishes out some serious damage. Whether you’re farming or going up against opponents in PvP, this ability could give you a solid edge. Contractor has definitely got some potential for players who like to mix survival with damage output.
Shadow Race
Now, let’s switch things up with the Shadow Race. This one’s a bit more niche, but oh man, it has some crazy potential. First off, if you’re using this race, I’d recommend going into your settings and disabling the race body parts. It removes that blocky face, making the overall look a lot cleaner. Plus, who doesn’t like a little customization, right?
So, here’s where the Shadow Race gets really cool: it’s immune to all damage in PvP. Yep, you read that right—zero damage from physical attacks. But there’s a catch. It’s buggy. There’s some weird damage interference that can leave you stuck in an odd situation, where you can’t deal damage either.
Despite other players trying everything they could, they still don’t take any damage to you. But… you couldn’t deal damage either, which shows how buggy the mechanics can be right now. In theory, the Shadow Race allows you to phase through kinetic attacks like Toji cuts or sword slices, but it’s supposed to leave you vulnerable only to energy-based attacks or DoTs (such as Starrk’s Cero, Kurotsugi, and burn effects like Dullahan or SJW Bleed). But since it’s still a bit buggy, only Dullahan users can really take it down right now.
My Go-To Build
Now, let’s talk about my go-to build. I’m all about maximizing Crit Rate and Crit Damage with a little added protection. Here’s what I’m running:
- Aizen TYBW
- Cid’s 5+
- Christmas Coat 5+
- Monarch Trait (none)
- Dragonic
- Dullahan (for night boosts)
- Gatekeeper
For max damage, I go all-in with Monarch Trait, Padoru, CidV2, and Demonic Race. With Dullahan at night, you can boost your damage by 10x, making you an absolute force in the game.
Wrap-Up
To wrap things up, the Contractor and Shadow races in Verse Piece each bring something unique to the table. While the Contractor thrives by turning damage into an advantage, the Shadow race allows you to phase through attacks with its damage immunity—although it’s a bit buggy right now.
