Hunting is not a hobby anyone can just get into. It requires preparation and experience. In real life, beginners would usually take notes from veterans, as well as go on much easier hunting trips together. After that, they are left to hunt on their own in order to become more independent in the world of hunting. In video games though, you can just easily look up a guide on what to do and what not to do, which is probably why you are here right now. With that said, here is a beginner’s guide on the Way of the Hunter.
Beginner’s Guide – Beginner’s Guide
First off when on the hunt, always make use of the Hunter Sense. In PC, this is the Q key. The purpose of the Hunter Sense is that you can essentially find clues that your prey has left behind. You can spot multiple clues that may have been left by your prey, so you can always use the X key to put a waypoint on said clues to investigate later.
Another thing to take note of when hunting is to approach your prey slowly. Walking or sprinting will alert your prey, forcing them to flee in fear. Make sure you know where your prey is and approach slowly by pressing the Ctrl key, which will make you creep your way to your prey. Once you’re at a good distance, that’s when you bring out your weapon to shoot.
Need Zones are also a good thing to take note of. Need Zones are marked on your map. After analyzing it, and it will show you which animal this Need Zone belongs to. A Need Zone is essentially an animals need that they sometimes return to. Whether it’s water or food, you can camp a Need Zone and wait for an animal to come by.
Hunting, like in real life, requires permission from authorities. In Way of the Hunter, you need a permission in order to hunt in certain areas. You have two options: buy the permission (which is $4500, by the way) or you can do missions that will eventually reward you with a hunting permission for a certain area.
You also have weapons you can purchase by accessing the computer in cabins. These weapons offer different stats that may be good for certain conditions. Of course, the late game weapons are going to be the best ones, but the late game weapons also have different stats that work best in different environments and weather conditions.
Also, make use of the hunting cabins. They are your safe haven. You have a safe, computer, and a place to sleep. Use the safe also refills your weapon ammo for free just by interacting with it. You can get a car to spawn outside the cabin just by accessing the computer and changing the color of your car. The cabin is truly your home away from home.
You also have perks in the game that you can unlock by achieving certain milestones. You can just play the game as normal if you’re not in a rush to unlock any. Or you can check the Perks section under the Character tab to see what you need to do in order to unlock some perks.
That’s all you need to know if you’re planning to play the game. Just bear in mind that you will learn a lot of things on your own when playing the game. But, it doesn’t hurt to understand what to do just before jumping into it.
