This stuff is one of those essential materials you’ll find yourself needing as you dive deeper into the game, especially when you start exploring Points of Interest like Eastern Valley and working on research projects. Without it, progressing can get seriously tricky, so knowing where to grab a solid stash early on is clutch.
Where To Find Complex Machinery
Complex Machinery is a core crafting component used in 25 different recipes, from weapons to upgrades and beyond. Fun fact: while it’s found in many of the older fabricators and refineries scattered around the world, you can’t actually craft Complex Machinery yourself. So, you gotta hunt it down.
One of the best spots I’ve found to farm Complex Machinery is around areas called the Steelworks or Ironworks (names vary slightly depending on the region). These places are basically refinery hubs filled with machines, prime real estate for finding the parts you need.
How To Farm Complex Machinery
Here’s how it works: walk up to these machines, loot every fabricator, refinery, and machine you spot, and you’ll likely find Complex Machinery stashed inside. I’ve personally walked away with a nice stack of 13 parts just from one spot, and this method works for a bunch of other resources too.
Tip: Use Your Survey Probe. As you explore and unlock new regions (you’ll need to progress through the game to access these), remember to deploy your Survey Probe whenever you set up a new base. It’s like a little drone that scans the area from above and reveals nearby loot locations on your map, super handy for pinpointing Ironworks, refineries, and other hotspots.
Regional Variations
Depending on which region you’re in, Complex Machinery will be hiding in different locations. For example, in the second area of the game, you’ll find spots like the Southeast Ironworks and a few other similar refinery areas. The tricky part? Some of these structures are outdoors, attached to giant mesas, and don’t have interiors, so keep your eyes peeled.
