Blacktail is one of those games that are based on folktales, and Blacktail is based on none other than the Baba Yaga. No, this isn’t about a certain individual that goes on killing people because he lost their dog to a crime syndicate. This one is based on the actual Slavic folklore where the main character is a monstrous or ferocious looking woman. Even so, you may find yourself seeing references to other legendary folktales, like the mission “Who’s the Fairest of Them Gnoll?” being a reference to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Blacktail – Who’s the Fairest of Them Gnoll?

Start the quest

You can start the quest by going to this forest clearing in the eastern part of the map.

To start the quest, you will need to talk to the Spy, which is a talking mushroom standing in a large, hollowed tree. He’ll talk to you about some stuff until you eventually get the quest.

Find your way onto Gnoll Island

Your first objective is finding a way into Gnoll Island, which is actually pretty simple. It’s not really that super protected, because you can just take a bridge over to the location. Just head on over to the red circle on the map first.

The entrance to Gnoll Island is across this bridge. There will be enemies in the area, so you should take them out when you get there.

Once you have dealt with the enemies in the area, head to the gate and interact with the hanging bone. This will initiate a little cutscene. Basically, you will need to learn the password to get through the gate.

Learn the password to the Gnoll Island gate

To get the password for the Gnoll Island gate, you will need to talk to Mer’Kha, who can be found in the outhouse, just east of the town. As always, you will have the help of the red circle that will help the search that much easier.

You can find Mer’Kha here (the outhouse on the right). Go up to the door and interact with it to get a brief little cutscene, and you will get the password for the Gnoll Island gate.

Get inside Gnoll Island

Now that you have the password, your next objective is to get back to the Gnoll Island gate.

Approach the gate and talk to the guard behind the gate and give the password. Then, you can finally enter Gnoll Island. Be warned that once the gate opens and they see who you are, they will immediately attack you, so be ready for when the gate opens.

Find Hunky

Now that you are inside Gnoll Island, everyone here will try to kill you. While doing so, you need to head deeper into the island to find Hunky. Go to the point of interest in the map and start your search there.

To find Hunky, look for this gate and open it. You will then climb up some stairs to another gate, where the objective will change to “Get Hunky”.

Get Hunky

Open the second gate and you will fight off another one of those teleporting enemies. Look around for Hunky, which you can find in this cauldron. Interact with it and you will get surprised attack from behind, knocking you out.

Escape!

You will shortly wake up and find yourself in a gladiator situation. Your objective here is to deflect the Wisps back to its sender by pressing F. Do enough damage and you will get your next objective.

Get your bow back and defeat Sh’Neh Kha

After doing enough damage, you will get the opportunity to get your bow back. Once you do, you will then have to fight Sh’Neh Kha. This fight won’t be too hard, so just throw whatever you have against the boss and you will easily beat it.

Free Hunky

With Sh’Neh Kha dead, you can then go to Hunky and free him. Go up the stairs and head up to the cauldron and interact with it to get him.

Take Hunky back to Spy and Finish Hunky

With Hunky in your possession, you will then have to go back to Spy. Once you have reached Spy, talk to him and you will get some dialogue that Hunky is too far gone. You will get the choice to either put him out of his misery or torture him until he speaks. Either choice will lead to the quest ending.

He's also a huge fan of superhero media like Marvel and DC, so he's practically played games like Spider-Man and the Batman Arkham games. He's also into multiplayer games that strike his fancy, specifically games like Call of Duty and Fortnite. Most especially Fortnite since he can play as different Marvel and DC characters in a battle royale against other famous and iconic characters.
