Playing as a human can usually end up with you being the butt of the joke in any RPG, not just Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s still a pretty fun race to play if you’re just trying to get your feet wet or you’re roleplaying as an imperialist trying to make a point.

Still, there’s plenty of classes to choose from right from the get-go. In this guide you’ll know which class synergizes well when playing as a human, so maybe think twice before you pick up a sword and shield again eh?

Best Class for Human

When you’re playing as Human, you can pick any class you want. You get a generous amount of points that you can invest into your Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution to the point where you can get all three of them to 16 at the start. But to keep decision making easy, your choice would be a Barbarian.

One of the few things you should keep in mind when playing as a human is the complete lack of Darkvision. It basically lets you see and move around in the dark as if the sun was out. Other than that you can just rely on the rest of your party instead.

Barbarian

A barbarian will always be your go to guy when it comes to inflicting damage out in the field of battle. Pair that up with the extra point you get for all your abilities and you’ll basically have the best blank canvas to work with at the start of your game.

You also don’t have to rely on armor as much as a Paladin or Cleric does, but you still have proficiency for Light and Medium Armour. Just so you can soak up a bit more damage before going down. Your main priority however, will be Constitution and Strength.

You can still have a pretty balanced distribution for your abilities however, here’s an example of what to start out with:

Strength – 16

Dexterity – 14

Constitution – 16

Intelligence – 9

Wisdom – 9

Charisma – 9

You can even go as far as putting two extra points into Dexterity at the cost of having less Charisma and Intelligence. Let somebody else in your party do the talking!

Cleric

A cleric is a good second choice class when you play as a Human. Your primary stat will be Wisdom, but that doesn’t mean that you’ll leave out Charisma, Constitution and Strength entirely. The Cleric is great when it comes to providing healing magic while also slowing down the opposing team with debuffs. You still get the plus one bonus to all of your abilities, which means you can max out Wisdom sooner.

Here’s a good distribution for your abilities when playing as a Cleric:

Strength – 15

Dexterity – 11

Constitution – 14

Intelligence – 9

Wisdom – 16

Charisma – 13

And that’s the best class to play as a Human in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you’re tired of using sword and shield to do damage, maybe it’s time to use a Wizard or a Sorcerer instead?

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
