Puzzles in RPGs aren’t something new, it’s a common thing to see in that genre. Puzzles in general seem to blindside us at every turn, like in action horror games for some reason. In Baldur’s Gate 3, a game that is based on Dungeons and Dragons should have puzzles in them and there’s one that you can find in Act 1. Inside the Defiled Temple through the Goblin Shaman’s room, is a puzzle that is a bit tricky to solve.
In this guide, we’ll show you a couple of ways of solving the Moon puzzle in that temple. Now, let’s see what our options are so we can go further down this place. Just don’t get too far down!
Defiled Temple Moon Puzzle Solution
In the Goblin base in Act 1 of the game, you’ll find the 3 goblin leaders that you’ll want to talk to for certain quests. One of which is the Goblin Shaman, True Soul Gut, a great name for a crazy which doctor. If you actually talk to her and tell her about the parasite, she’ll invite you to her room. There you can kill her to get the key to go to her actual quarters which leads to the Defiled Temple.
Inside the quarters of the goblin shaman is an ogre that you’ll want to kill for the EXP. Behind the ogre is a bedroom and in one of the cabinets is a book called “Selunite Journal.” It speaks of the puzzle and gives hints on how to solve it. Specifically saying that “Casting darkness where it belongs.”
The Puzzle has 4 pieces that you can spin around to move the white and black circles. There is one piece which we’ll call the ‘top’ piece that has direct sunlight on it. To solve the puzzle, you’ll need to move all the black circles on the piece that is touched by sunlight.
For the guide the ‘top’ piece is the one with sunlight. If you haven’t touched the puzzle yet, then this is how you’ll solve it:
Left – top – bottom – right – bottom x2 – right x2 – top – right.
If done correctly the puzzle will trigger a door that will open leading you to more adventure.
If you don’t like puzzles, maybe you’re roleplaying as a rogue that absolutely hates them, then there’s good news! With a good perception check you can find a lever of the levels on the staircases in the same area shown below. You can lockpick that instead and activate it to open the door, bypassing the puzzle!
That’s how you solve the Moon Puzzle in the Defiled Temple or bypass it entirely in Baldur’s Gate 3! Now that you know how to do that go check out our guide on how to get Druid Halsin into your party if you haven’t already!
