Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game by Larian Studios that has recently taken the world by storm with its intuitive gameplay. The game is based on Dungeon and Dragons, meaning that a lot of the dice roll mechanics are present in the game, which adds an element of luck to it as well. Other than that, players can explore a massive world and customize their character to their heart’s content. This guide will focus on how to visit and explore the Emperor’s Old Hideout.

Visit The Emperor’s Old Hideout

Location

This quest is part of the Baldur’s Gate series of quests. The objective here is for players to explore the Elfsong Tavern Basement as the old emperor himself guides them. When you enter the Elfsong Tavern, head to the back, and there you will find a staircase that leads to the basement. Interact with the Wooden Stairs, and this will transport you to the basement.

Exploration

The moment you enter the basement, you will be ambushed by a horde of rats, and a battle will commence. Since the number of these rats is quite large and they are quite clustered together, we recommend using spells that deal damage over a large area. A good example of this is the Spike Growth spell.

Defeating rats

Another alternative could be to use Sweeping attacks if you have a party member that is melee focused. However, these are probably not going to cover such a large range as the spells do. Once all the rats are defeated, the emperor will inform you of a hidden door that will lead into the wine cellar. Additionally, he will inform you that its mechanism is hidden within the Wine Racks.

Message from emperor

To find this mechanism, take the door on the right side of the room. Once you enter it, the Emperor will speak once again, confirming that this is the right room. Inside this room, you can interact with a small button on the wall. Once the button is pressed, the wine barrel in the room adjacent to the one you are in will open.

Secret button

Exit the room where you pressed the button and enter the second room through the other set of doors in the basement. Here pass through the secret entrance that was opened by the button, and at the end of the path, you will see another door. Interact with this door to enter the Knights of Shield Hideout to continue your exploration.

Fight the Githyanki

Once you enter the Knights of Shield Hideout, the emperor will express his concern regarding the Githyanki in this room. He will instruct you to get rid of them to continue your exploration. Once all the Githyanki have been defeated, Ch’r’ai Har’rak will appear with the intention of stealing the artifact from you.

Once the conversation ends, a battle will commence with Ch’r’ai Har’rak and her soldiers. This will be a tough battle, so make sure to strategize each move and play very carefully.

Final Room

Once all the enemies have been defeated, the Emperor will praise you for your efforts and will guide you to the last room, which he reveals is hidden behind the statue. Before opening the rooms, you might want to take some time to loot all the enemies that you defeated. Moreover, there are multiple chests in this area as well that contain useful loot, so make sure to lockpick all of them.

Looting

Once you have successfully explored this room, head beyond the table in the center of the room and up the stairs. In front of you, there should be a statue. If you get behind the statue, your party member will initiate Perception checks. The moment anyone is successful a button will be revealed on the wall.

Pressing the button will open an entrance in the wall and grant you access to the Hidden Room. Here the Emperor will thank you for bringing him back to this previous home and allow you to obtain any items found in the area for yourself.
