If you have just started playing Starfield, you might still be having the thrill of exploring the game’s expansive world all on your own. We have published some guides to help you if you find yourself struggling to get past something. As you go along finishing missions and quests though, you’ll discover that there are interesting groups or factions that you can join.
Since Starfield’s exciting early release, people have been diving deeper not just into the gameplay, but also its lore. And since it involves multiple planets, territories, characters, and even raw materials, we still have a lot to learn.
One thing we know though, is that in the main setting of Starfield which is the Settled Systems, there are two interesting interstellar governments. One of these is the Freestar Collective. This confederation controls the star systems Cheyenne, Narion, and Volii.
How to Join the Freestar Collective on Starfield
In order to be a part of Freestar Collective, you must play the story until you reach the fourth mission titled The Empty Nest.
The Empty Nest
From here, you should look for Sam Coe in the garden part of The Lodge. There, you’ll find him talking to his daughter Cora. As you speak with him, he’ll tell you about an expedition.
Next, you’ll need to travel to Akila City. To do that, you must pass through the Cheyenne System. If this is your first time arriving in Akila, you’ll find the Job Gone Wrong side mission.
Job Gone Wrong
In Job Gone Wrong, you’ll learn that a group called Shaw Gang has infiltrated GalBank and has held some people as hostages. Since this interferes with your main mission wherein you must retrieve a map from the vault of the bank, completing this is now mandatory.
You can complete the mission in two ways—you can either use persuasion to earn the Gang Leader’s trust and convince him to free the hostages and surrender peacefully, or you can choose to sneak inside and bravely fight the Shaw Gang before any hostage gets hurt.
Take note though that if you try the second option, make sure that you don’t accidentally hurt a hostage. ‘Cause if you do, this will likely prevent you from being able to join the Freestar Rangers.
If you successfully complete Job Gone Wrong, you will be referred by the GalBank’s Marshal Blake to join the Freestar Rangers. This will lead to another Freestar Collective Side Mission called Deputized.
Deputized
Still in Akila City, head to The Rock which is the home of the Rangers. Talk to Emma Wilcox, and she’ll tell you to prove yourself by completing a Freestar Ranger Mission on their bounty board. These are random missions, so whatever you choose is up to you.
After successfully finishing your chosen mission, report back. You’ll find Emma taking you to meet the Marshal once again. He will ask you if you’re ready to be a ranger, and eventually give you the title of Freestar Deputy.
You’ll receive your own Freestar Deputies Badge, Deputy Hat, Ranger Deputy Uniform, and Deadeye Pistol.
And that’s it. You’re officially a part of the Freestar Collective!
