Starfield: How to Get the Starborn Guardian Before NG+

The Starborn hide a lot of secrets, including one of the best ships in the Starfield universe. The Starborn Guardian not only has great stats, it gets even stronger over time.

Though this is technically one of the rewards locked behind game completion and NG+, there is a way around it. With a bit of luck and a lot of speed, you can make off with the ship before The Starborn even knows what hit them.

How to Get the Starborn Guardian Before NG+ in Starfield

The first and only thing you’re really going to need is an Amp. These are basic booster items you can pick up from the majority of vendors. They grant a quick buff to your strength and movement speed, which you’ll be thankful for in a moment.

Next up, head to Orborum 1. This is located in the Oborum Prime star system (level 1-10 in the Beta Andrastre system). You can see from the image below where we landed, we’d recommend starting off from around here.

This is where that element of luck comes in, we need the ship to spawn. Just like any other ship, the Starborn Guardian will spawn and land randomly.

When you spot it coming in for a landing, run straight for it. Timing is crucial here. Pop your Amp, run up the ship’s wing and go straight for the door (pictured above), as fast as you can.

Some enemies will spawn, ignore them. If you stop to fight, or take too long to reach the door after they exit, the ship will lock and become inaccessible. Remember, the perfect moment is exactly as the enemies are leaving the ship – leaving it unlocked.

Once you make it inside, all that’s left to do is claim your prize. Saunter up to the pilot’s seat, make yourself at home and get ready for takeoff.

It’s worth noting, you will still need to register this ship at your local ship services and it can’t be modified in the ship builder. To make up for that though, the ship does boast the ability to increase its stats each ‘loop’ (or run of NG+).

As mentioned previously, this ship is ‘self-improving’. Every time you complete a playthrough and enter the final area, the ship gets significantly stronger. However since this method lets you get the ship before NG+, I won’t mention where that area is.

Below are the base stats for the ship, these will each increase by 10 each playthrough:

  • Shield: 630
  • Lasers: 24
  • Torpedos: 70
  • Shield: 630
  • Hull: 649
  • Cargo Capacity: 950
  • Crew Capacity: 5
  • Jump Distance – 30 LY
