As you might have seen or heard, the Dragonflight expansion just got revealed. We do not know a whole lot about where the location might be, or how it might affect the whole WoW world.

Here, we’ll go through some speculation and guesses where the new zone might be.

Dragonflight – Dragon Isles Location & Map

In Case You Missed It

We know the actual location from the Isles, even shown on the map. We know how they are shaped. But let’s explore something more than that.

Dragonisles

As we can see, the cinematic trailer takes place during the War of the Ancients and it’s clear that the Dragonisles are not part of the mega continent of pre-Kalimdor. It is safe to say that we are going further to the edges of the map. Farther away than ever before.

From everything that I’ve seen in the trailer, I’ve tried to put those scenes altogether. The new Dragonisles location should be something of this shape, roughly.

As we can see, Thaldraszus is facing the Maelstrom and it can be far off away. So it is safe to assume that it will be on the southwest side. Valdrakin is in the zone of Thaldraszus too.

In the cinematic, we see another shore. That is in the zone of Azure Span. From here, you actually can not see the Maelstorm, as shown in the cinematic. Because it looks all icy, it’s safe to assume that it will be on the north side. It is also the largest zone

The Waking Shores is also have been said to be a coastal zone. It will probably be on the southern side because of its warmer climate.

The Ohn`arhran Plains do not look coastal at all in the cinematic. It is said that you will need to get permission in order to pass through it. So it must be located in the middle.

The Forbidden Reach is said to be located off the coast of Dargonisles so it might be hard to assume where it will be. But with recent and newest research, it’s confirmed that it is on the southeast side of the map.

World Map

Dragonisles actually do have a planned location even in the vanilla WoW. So I assume it will not be too far away from this starting point. Somewhere in the area perhaps. From how Azure Span feels with its whole environment, it might be a good guess to say that it’s somewhere near Northrend.

It actually feels like a good match for it to be in the Northrend area.

It has to be said that in the vanilla it’s located in a different location. But there’s an argument to be said that the Dragonisles could be mirrored on the other side of the map, and actually be near Kalimdor.  So far, from all the research that we have and dev information – Dragonsiles should be located as shown on the map.
