Anime Defenders just got its first significant update, and it added a whole bunch of new features, including story maps, raids, and even towers. In this guide, we will very quickly be going through all of the new units added in the patch, as well as a brief description of what they can do and how powerful they can potentially be.

Update 1 All New Units Info & Showcase

With Update 1 finally dropping, the developers have introduced a new limited banner featuring a bunch of units with varying rarities. As of writing this article, you still have around 12 days to try and pull from this banner.

If you need more resources to pull from banners, take a quick peek at our guide on how to get gems fast in Anime Defenders so you can get to farming before the banner goes away!

Pulls from the limited banner cost the same as the standard one at 50 gems per attempt. Refer to the image below to see the rates for each tier, except for the Secret rarity one, as that one is undisclosed.

Also, keep in mind that the legendary and mythic pity are completely separate from the standard banner. This means that you will have to solely pull from the limited banner if you want to build up pity there.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: The image below will not show all of the new units, as it is a banner that rotates over time. We’ll get to each of the new units in the following sections.

Anime Defenders limited banner offerings with rates shown

New Unit #1. Magic Arrow (Rare)

The first new unit is Magic Arrow, and he is the most common one of the bunch. It is a basic tower with some decent range and damage for the price, and it gets a new ability after a few upgrades.

It only costs 350 Yen to place, and it can be an okay low level starter unit. Its usefulness falls off drastically in later waves and maps, however, as its damage ceiling is not that high, even with its Charged Arrow ability.

New Unit #2. Ocean Guardian (Epic)

The new epic rarity unit is the Ocean Guardian, and its main attack is basically a barrage of water at targets within range. This barrage has a small area of effect, allowing this unit to hit a couple of enemies at once despite having what looks like a single target attack.

After a few upgrades, this unit will gain the Water Bomb ability. This will allow it to occasionally charge up a giant orb of water and throw it at the target, dealing a lot of damage in a large area around the impact zone.

It costs 450 Yen to place down. Just like the Magic Arrow tower, this unit is not particularly great in later stages as its damage falls behind what other options can deal. It’s decent for some early clears though.

New Unit #3. Electric Cyborg (Legendary)

The new legendary unit is called Electric Cyborg, and it costs 1,000 Yen to place down. Despite the high price, it comes with a free turret that does damage separately from his own attacks. This turret seems to get stronger as you upgrade the Electric Cyborg too.

His base attack is a missile cannon that deals damage in a decently large area around its target. It gains a lot of additional damage with each upgrade, making it a particularly good unit especially with the free backup it gets.

After a few upgrades, its attack changes into an electric beam that has a much better range and area of effect, and this makes it really good if you can position it in a way that it hits enemies in a straight line.

New Unit #4. Donut Warrior / Master (Mythic)

Donut Warrior is the first new mythic rarity unit in the update, and it can evolve into Donut Master, which is essentially the same character but with his shirt off.

It costs 1,350 Yen to put down, and it deals a ton of damage right off the bat, but at the cost of a relatively slow attack speed. Its attack is an area of effect skill called Donut Puddle.

After a few upgrades, its attack changes into Donut Bullet, which is a barrage that also deals damage in an area around the target. Eventually, this also changes into Donut Spear Throw, which acts like a strong missile.

It can get the Donut Punch ability at around mid level. It is similar to the previous skill, but with much more damage and a slightly larger area of effect.

In the tail end of upgrades, it gets the Donut Flood ability, which is a line attack that deals a ton of damage. Because of this upgrade in particular, consider placing the tower where it can hit things in a straight line.

Finally, its last ability is Donut Dragon, which is a barrage of punches that deals damage in a massive area around the target. It is extremely powerful and can quickly clear out chunks of mobs.

New Unit #5. Warrior Princess / Queen (Mythic)

The next new mythic rarity unit is the Warrior Princess / Queen, which has much simpler attacks than the previous one in this list and costs 1,250 Yen to place. It has a variety of sword-based area of effect attacks.

While her raw damage does not seem as high as the previous unit shown here, she can still be great for clearing out large clumps of mobs due to the huge area of effect that her attacks all have.

Overall, she is a nice alternative if you weren’t lucky enough to get Donut Warrior / Master, but definitely a very slight step down if you compare the two units’ damage outputs.

If evolved into Warrior Queen, she really shines (literally) at max level and can easily keep up with the previous unit. Having both of the new mythics together make for a fairly overpowered combination.

New Unit #6. The Cursed Knight (Secret)

Finally, the new secret addition is called The Cursed Knight, and it is an extremely rare ground unit that costs 2,250 Yen to place in the field.

All of the attacks that it can get as you upgrade it have a huge area of effect, making it particularly great at clearing out waves even on its own. It deals over a thousand damage right off the bat, and this goes up by a lot with each upgrade.

Near max level, it gains the Cursed Discharge ability, which replaces its ranged attack with a large area of effect blast that originates from the unit itself. This makes it a great unit to place in the middle of looping sections of the level to maximize its damage.
