Once Human has burst into the scene, giving people a chance to experience yet another open world survival game for absolutely free. If you and your friends are thinking of playing the game together, this guide will help you figure out how to set up your group and experience the game as a unit!

How to Play with Friends

The first and most obvious step that you need to follow is to ensure that you and your group join the same server. If you’ve played survival games before, the server selection screen should look very familiar.

Feel free to choose whichever has the lowest ping for everyone, and maybe pick one that is still relatively fresh and has a low population for a smooth new player experience.

Finding Each Other In the Game + Tips

Choosing the same server is not going to be enough. Once you get in, make sure that you are in the same world. You can check this by looking at the upper right corner of the screen, right above the mini map.

In the event that you are in separate worlds, everyone must find and go to one of the many teleportation towers in the map (indicated by a blue icon). There, you will get the option to switch worlds.

Just make sure that everybody swaps to the same world and you should now be able to find each other in the game world.

One thing that should help keep track of your group is to open the social menu and add your friends by searching for their name (this is case sensitive) or ask for their UID (can be found in the lower left corner of the screen).

A potential major issue is that you can’t seem to share bases outside of simply giving friends permission to use your facilities. With the hive base mechanic being removed in the beta, the best thing your group can do is build close to each other instead.

Quest progress does not seem to be shared among groups too, though you can still help complete each other’s individual objectives.

We do know that you can relocate your entire base with a similar system as the one in Fallout 76, if you’ve ever played that game. This should help you move your bases closer together in case some people in your group have already built elsewhere.

And that is everything you need to know in order to play with friends in this new survival game, as well as a few things to keep in mind once you get together. While you’re here, consider taking a peek at our complete beginner’s guide for Once Human to get some more tips on how to get started!
