If you’ve made it into Hell in TYPE://SOUL, you’re already halfway through one of the game’s most intense endgame challenges. But getting in is only the beginning—progressing through Layer 1 and unlocking access to Layer 2 is the next major step toward unlocking powerful forms like True Bankai, Segunda Etapa, or Sklavrei. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know to complete the Hell Layer 1 quest, from where to start and what to expect, all the way to the boss fight at the end. What Is Hell Layer 1 in Type Soul?
Hell is a multi-layered, endgame zone in Type Soul made up of the following levels:
- The Highway
- Ring 1
- Ring 2
- Ring 3
- The Maze
- The Library
- Purgatory (coming soon)
Each layer contains unique mobs, quests, and major boss fights that test your build and patience. Layer 1 (also called Ring 1) is where players begin their true journey after completing the Highway. It introduces the first real grind and the questline that leads to the Layer 1 boss.
Here’s how to get started.
Spawn Points & Where to Begin in Ring 1
When you first enter Ring 1, you’ll spawn in one of two places:
- The upper area, near cliffs and rocks
- The lower zone, near the Hell mob farming loop
Both paths connect, and both lead to the same farming area and quest NPCs. It doesn’t matter which spawn you get—you’ll be able to progress just the same.
To find quest NPCs quickly, press comma ( , ) on your keyboard to highlight their names in the world.
Step 1: Find and Talk to Tiger Sozosei
Your first objective in Ring 1 is to find the NPC Tiger Sozosei, who offers the main Layer 1 progression quest.
Tiger will give you two quest options:
- Defeat 120 Hell NPCs
- Complete 40 Ring 1 raids
🔍 Recommendation: Choose the 120 NPC kills. It’s significantly faster and easier to complete solo.
Depending on your build and how crowded the farming area is, you can finish this in about 30 to 60 minutes. Mobs spawn regularly, and most players grinding in Layer 1 tend to avoid PvP, making it a fairly relaxed zone.
Where to Farm Hell NPCs
The main mob farming area is located in the central lava zone. Simply drop down from either spawn point, and you’ll find groups of Hell NPCs roaming the open space.
It’s a shared farming area, so you might find other players grinding there too. Fortunately, PvP is uncommon here since most people just want to finish their quests and move on to the next layer.
Tip: Both spawn points lead to the same loop—don’t worry about getting lost.
Bonus Quest: Morpheus (Optional)
While farming mobs, you may notice another NPC named Morpheus. He’s located near the bottom section of the map and offers a bonus side quest:
- Defeat Bankai-tier NPCs and Grade 5 Shinigami
These enemies are AI-controlled and fairly manageable. While the reward from this quest is still a bit unclear, it’s worth picking up and progressing alongside your main quest since you’re already in the area.
Step 2: Reach the Boss Trigger – NPC “1”
Once you’ve finished Tiger’s quest, return to the lower spawn area and look for a path that leads upward. Follow the rocky route until you reach another quest NPC named “1”.
This NPC is crucial—he’s the one who will trigger the Layer 1 boss fight. You must complete Tiger’s quest before “1” will interact with you.
Final Step: Boss Fight – Hiragana of the 1st Ring
Interacting with “1” starts the Hiragana of the 1st Ring boss battle. This Sternritter boss has a unique mechanic:
☠️ Your Bankai/Res/Volt will be forcibly removed mid-fight via a medallion.
How To Beat Hiragana of the 1st Ring
To beat Hiragana of the 1st Ring, I recommend that you use Specter Step on the person then start the bossfight. You will then get TP’ed in.
You’ll have to fight without your second form, so be prepared. The battle is tough, especially without your strongest abilities, but manageable if you focus on dodging and baiting his attacks.
Once you drop him to half HP, he’ll pop Butterfly Vollständig for his second phase. You just need to survive and beat him in that form to clear the Ring.
Once defeated, you will:
- Receive the second Book Fragment, which ties into the Library questline you’ll unlock later after completing all Hell Rings.
- Be automatically teleported into Ring 2
Congratulations—you’ve officially cleared Layer 1 of Hell.
Can You Get Slot Locked in Hell?
Yes—but only under specific conditions:
- You must be gripped twice by another player
- Dying to NPCs or bosses does NOT lock your slot
If you do get locked, you’ll be forced to fight your Inner Self to regain access to your character. It’s a high-stakes mechanic, so be cautious in PvP zones—especially during raids or if you’re running with randoms.
