SPOILERS AHEAD! Tread carefully.
The highly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy game, set in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world over a hundred years ago, will feature a significant first – the franchise’s first transgender character. The open-world role-playing game, based on Rowling’s Harry Potter universe and set in the 1800s, introduces players to Sirona Ryan, the owner of the Three Broomsticks pub in Hogsmeade Village. Ryan informs players that her classmates took some time to recognize that she was a witch, not a wizard.
The appearance of a transgender character in the wizarding world is significant, especially considering the recent controversy surrounding Rowling and her perceived anti-trans comments. In the game, Ryan informs the player about her relationship with a goblin named Lodgok and mentions the challenges she faced from her classmates.
