Story

The most important thing that will draw you in and drive you forward when playing Returnal is the story.

You are a scout for Astra, you are going to travel to a mysterious planet to check out a weird symbol called White Shadow.

But things don’t go as planned even initially.

You crash and lose communication with the headquarters.

Now you begin exploring and strange things start occurring right away. Celine dies, and upon dying you loop back in time and receive very strange visions.

Now you start after Celine wakes up and how you escape the horrors and things that could have led to her death, is something that you explore when playing the game.

What Kind Of Game Is Returnal

Returnal is a rouge–like game. You are going to discover lots of weapons and artifacts, HP increases, and the currency for shopping.

Upon dying, you are going to lose all of the things that you have obtained. This is the most important thing that you need to know as a beginner.

You can die, and it will happen one way or another. But you’ll wake up in the same horrific dream cycle and only keep the permanent items that you have obtained while playing the game.

The map and world around you change with each run, or we can refer to it as another cycle. The placement of certain things will be very different each time.

How Does The Gameplay Work

Returnal is a third-person shooter that will require you to shoot up a lot of enemies. You need to use the dodge and spring abilities to your advantage as they are your best friends.

Movement is key when fighting any type of enemy you’ll come across.

Keep an eye out on the enemy projectiles and keep dodging them while you shoot.

When you unlock the melee attack, and you will be in the early stages of the game, only then will you be able to rush up on enemies and take them head first.

Overload & Adrenaline

When you execute perfect shots without getting hit or make the perfect reloads called overloads, you receive and build up Adrenaline. This is very important when playing the game that will give you lots of enhancements that will stack up over time.

It will get reset on hit so you need to make sure that you time your movement and see the enemy attacks coming your way.

If an enemy is unpredictable, you can always die and come back the next time to defeat him after knowing this attack. This way you’ll build up a lot of Adrenaline.

Shortcuts & Biomes

Do not worry if you get to a biome and are worried whether you’ll be able to visit it again, or maybe you die and you think you need to pass everything until you reach it.

There are various shortcuts that will unlock as you play the game that will let you get to those harder and tougher biomes in an instant. This is course challenging, but you will be able to get back to the biome where you might have died maybe.

Endless Mode

Although you might be thinking that the endless mode of Returnal is basically the same as the main game mode itself, you would be wrong.

We recommend that you give this a try and play it as deep in as possible.

Without spoiling anything, if you are a beginner to the game and do enjoy it, you are going to enjoy a lot of things that you will see here. It does have a lot of challenges that make the game way harder on you, but this is what makes it way more fun at the same time too.

Co-Op

Returnal does have a Co-Op mode that you are able to play with your close friend, or simply match up with a random person on the internet via the matchmaking system.
