The Last of Us Part 1: “Not Enough VRAM” Error Fix

Game settings nowadays would always show the amount of VRAM you have left every time you make any changes in an attempt to make your session more bearable. The further it goes to the right, the more you fear for your room turning into a bakery, with you sitting right next to the oven! Worst part is you haven’t even done much yet and you suddenly get an error saying that you don’t have enough VRAM. These are one of the many issues you’ll butt heads with whenever you boot up the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1, there’s still a solution however.

So to keep things simple, you need the extra VRAM to get a silky smooth experience out of your game from both a performance and visual point of view. If you’re on the low end side then you would definitely want to keep settings to a minimum to keep your PC in check.

If you ever get this error, it simply means that your GPU cannot run the game because you didn’t read the minimum system requirements. That or the game is acting up due to how beautiful the PC port is. Regardless, here’s what you can do to bypass this. Because why should you let an error message get in your way?

You can open the registry and edit the value that reports how much VRAM your system has, to trick your computer into pretending to be something that it isn’t do the following steps below:

1. Pres the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

• Type “regedit” and hit enter.

• Navigate to this address:

• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX.
  
  
• Create a new DWORD value named “VideoMemorySize”.

• Double click on the “VideoMemorySize” value and change the value data to the amount of VRAM you want to allocate (in bytes).

• Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

You’ll be running the game in no time, and you didn’t even have to download any VRAM from the internet! How about that? Now don’t push your luck too much and lower your graphics settings once you’re in the game!
