There is something about cyberpunk games that makes their development very troubling. Cyberpunk 2077 was a game that was first announced in 2012 and it took them 8 years to release the game (at a very unplayable state). As the game was nearing release, we hear stories and reports that the game is troubling, and that content had to be cut.
Some of those content was cut from the gamer just months from release as well.
It kind of makes you wonder if cyberpunk games just have a curse or something, because Beyond Good and Evil 2 is another cyberpunk game that was teased way back in 2008, had their official announcement in 2017, and then radio silence five years later.
Look at this and tell me that this is not a cyberpunk game.
What seems to be the problem with Beyond Good and Evil 2? I’ll tell you what it’s problem is: it is way too ambitious and Ubisoft does not know what to do with it. This game saw No Man’s Sky and said “hey, I want to try doing that”. This game isn’t just open world, it is open universe. Meaning that you can fly your ship out of the planet, into space, and travel anywhere you want into the stars.
This game is incredibly ambitious that it its director left a couple of years ago, and has been in development hell way before that. Thanks to Ubisoft changing their strategy from making their games to have a little bit of live service features implemented, this makes the already difficult development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 even more difficult.
At this point, I am surprise that this game is even still alive, because with the constant delays and changes that are being reported, the game might not even ship in its originally promised state.
Huge thanks to MathChief for reporting on this situation with the game. If you want to learn more about this game, then check out his YouTube video that talks more about the state of this game and what’s happening: The ”most ambitious” game that will NEVER release…
