Complete Potions Guide

Brewing, like Cooking, is a method for producing consumable items that have a variety of positive and negative effects in Arcane Odyssey. It is a potion-creation system that allows the user to produce potions with various benefits, such as healing or the ability to breathe underwater.

How to Brew Potions

To brew a potion, you need to put the ingredients such as Reagents and Catalysts into a Cauldron. You’ll need two of the same Catalyst item and one or more Reagent items. You can find the cauldrons on almost every island in the game.

Potency of Potions

Every potion has a potency value when it is hovered over. This affects the strength of the status effect or, if one doesn’t have a duration, the duration of the impact. By building up your Brewing Skill by producing more potions, you can boost the power of any potion you’ve ever produced. The Info UI has a section where you can see your current Brewing Skill.

Potency of the potions based on Brewing Skills.

  • Lesser.
  • Moderate.
  • Strong.
  • Powerful.
  • Perfect.

The most potent potions are those that are drinkables, followed by throwables with a little less potency and gel with the least.

Types of Potions

  • Vial (0.5x potency) – The weakest drinkable potions made with common shoreline items.
  • Flask (0.75x potency) – Drinkable potions made from uncommon shoreline items.
  • Potion (1x potency) – Drinkable potions that are made with rare shoreline items.
  • Elixir (1.5x potency) –  Strongest drinkables made from exotic shoreline items.

  • Gel (3-minute duration, 0.3x potency when applied) – Whale blubber, which the user applies to their hands to ensure that the potion effect is applied with each of their attacks.

Potion Ingredient Types

When you want to craft a potion, you will see that there are two slots you need to put your ingredients in. One for Reagent and the other for Catalyst. These are the main types of ingredients that affect the outcome.

Potion Types

Reagent

The Reagents are the essential ingredients that determine the type of potion that will be crafted. The impact of the potion depends on the Reagent you use and can include burning, improved vision, luck, knockback, and many other things. For each potion effect, there is a common and rare Reagent. The Tier of a potion is determined by the quantity of Reagent added to a cauldron.

  • Tier 1 Potion: 1x Common Reagent.
  • Tier 2 Potion: 5x Common Reagent.
  • Tier 3 Potion: 10x Common Reagent.
  • Tier 4 Potion: 5x Rare Reagent.
  • Tier 5 Potion: 10x Rare Reagent.

Common Reagents can typically be found and grown in some ways, and they can also be acquired from ingredient bags. Rare Reagents are often discovered solely in the Dark Sea or can occasionally be acquired in other ways.

Reagent

Catalyst

The Catalyst items regulate how the potion effect is used, including how it is consumed, infused into your attacks, and how it is distributed to party members. Each variety of consumables has a varied potency, and each throwable has different characteristics including whether it can harm ships or not. Catalysts are often shoreline items that you need to find to create drinking potions. You can discover them as random spawning items or acquire them from ingredient bags. You can use any catalyst type to create any potion effect.
