When going through your second or even third playthrough in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’ll see that some quests can be done in other ways. When dealing with Auntie Ethel from the game, you’ll be surprised at how many different ways you can approach this quest. One of which is the usage of the Whispering Masks in her lair. How do you use them without losing yourself to the mask?
In this guide, we’ll show you a neat little trick on how to use the mask safely. With it, the lair becomes a bit easier to navigate through so let’s see how we can use them!
Auntie Ethel Questline | Correct Way on How to Use the Whispering Mask Guide
When dealing with the Hag that is Auntie Ethel in the game, you might not get to kill her in one turn. The moment that happens, she’ll try to run away by going through an illusion on her fireplace. When you go behind her fireplace, you’ll see more of her lair down some stairs.
When you continue through her lair, you’ll see some Whispering Masks. If you wear the masks, you’ll start doing saving throws, and if you fail too much, you’ll be controlled by the hag. That means an instant game over, so how do we use them properly?
To use the masks without being a puppet to the hag, cast the Protection from Evil And Good spell. Cast it on the character that you plan to wear it with. This can be cast by Clerics or by using scrolls you can find from vendors or throughout the game.
NOTE: Remember to unchain the rest of your party when going forward. This is unless you cast the spell on them as well and have them wear the masks.
When you have Protection from Evil And Good, you can then wear the mask and continue through the lair. On the next room, the enemies that are wearing the masks won’t attack you.
Further down the lair, you’ll see the traps in the next area. Usually, the area would be filled with noxious fumes but since you’re wearing the mask the fumes won’t be there. You’ll also automatically see and avoid the traps, unless you intentionally set them off.
