Baldurs Gate 3: Best Class for Drow

Don’t worry, the sun doesn’t hate you!

Baldur's Gate 3 Drow

In the world of DnD there’s a lot of interesting and unique races that you can play as. Or you can play as a Human male fighter if you like white bread. For those who like to try the more exotic races in Baldur’s Gate 3 there’s ones like the Gnomes or the Drow that have their own different bonuses and such. Some of them aren’t like the ones you see in Tabletop games though and a perfect example is the Drow.

In this guide, we’ll show you what are the best class for the Drow and what’s so different about them from normal DnD. We’ll also show you some great ability point distributions for these classes. Now let’s see what the Drow is best at.

Best Class for Drow

Right off the bat for regular Dungeons and Dragons 5E players, you might notice something different about the Drow in the game. They still have that signature dark skin, but they have something missing, their Sunlight Sensitivity. That was one of the major downsides of playing as a Drow in normal Dungeons and Dragons and here there’s none of it.

This isn’t a developer oversight but actually a part of the story. Of course, I won’t spoil it to you, so you’ll have to see it for yourself!

Drow Basics

When picking a Drow, you’ll get a +2 bonus to Dexterity and a +1 to Charisma. You also have Keen Senses which gives you proficiency in Perception. Speaking of proficiency, you’re also proficient in Rapiers, Short swords and Hand Crossbows. Also, like other elves you have Fey Ancestry which means you have advantage against being charmed and magic can’t put you to sleep!

Along with that you have you Superior Dark Vision that makes you see further in the dark as well as the Dancing Lights to cast light into the darkness. Those are all the bonuses you get for picking a Drow in the game. Now, let’s see what the different classes are you can go for.

Rogue

The Rogue is not only a great damage dealer but can also bring some utility in the party. That’s why that +2 dexterity will come in handy here for the Drow. This will buff up your Armor Class as well as your usage of finesse weapons that rogues typically use. Not only that but more dexterity also means more Sleight of Hand and Stealth!

Ready for some sneak attacks!

With the extra bit in Charisma, you can even try being proficient with Persuasion or Deception which are both Charisma skills. Not to mention that Rogues can have Expertise where you pick two skill proficiency and make them even better. You can have quite a dashing rogue with a Drow!

Here’s an example of a good starting ability distribution for a Drow Rogue:

Strength – 8

Dexterity – 17

Constitution – 15

Intelligence – 12

Wisdom – 12

Charisma – 10

Of course, you can switch out these stats for more Charisma if you want to have more utility in talking to people. You can even throw more points in Intelligence if you want to be an Arcane Trickster, which is a Rogue that cast some wizard spells!

Bard

This is another class that goes well with the bonuses of the Drow. Not only do they mainly use Dexterity for their weapons, but the extra Charisma can also help since that’s their spell casting stat. That’s right, the Bard uses Charisma for magic, who would have seen that coming?

Of course, we have the best outfits!

Like the Rogue the bard can be a great utility class for the Drow as well since they get Expertise too at level 3. Bards are really the ultimate utility class in Dungeons and Dragons in both skill and in magic. They can also go to melee or ranged combat as well as long as they use Dexterity weapons.

Here’s an example of a good starting ability distribution for a Drow Bard:

Strength – 8

Dexterity – 16

Constitution – 13

Intelligence – 12

Wisdom – 10

Charisma – 16

We could take things further and lower our Wisdom and Intelligence but that would lower the utility of the bard. Remember that the bard can get Jack of All Trades which means they get half your proficiency bonus to all skills you don’t have proficiency with!

Be sure to check out our guide on Bards in Baldur’s Gate 3 for more information on making one!

Sorcerer and Warlock

I’ll be grouping both the Sorcerer and the Warlock in the same place because they’re both Charisma Casters. Unlike the Bard it takes a bit of effort for them to be fighting in anything Martial related but that’s not their strength. The strength of these two classes comes with their spells, although the Warlock can be good in melee as well with the right build.

I’m not a wizard, I swear!

With that +1 to Charisma, you’ll get a better deal since you’re a charisma caster. When it also comes to the added Dexterity it gives you a little bit of a defense bonus because of your AC. You can push the AC even further if you pick a Draconic Sorcerer due to their Draconic Resilience that gives you more AC as well as health.

Here’s an example of a good starting ability distribution for a Drow Sorcerer or Warlock:

Strength – 8

Dexterity – 16

Constitution – 14

Intelligence – 10

Wisdom – 10

Charisma – 16

You can put less on Constitution and more on Wisdom or Intelligence if you want more utility and don’t mind being in the back lines. For those players that want to play a melee Warlock then you’ll want to keep that Constitution up.

Those are some of the best classes for the Drow in Baldur’s Gate 3. Of course, this is just for the numbers and abilities, if you want to lean more into roleplay then go for anything that fits your character!
