Each class and race will always have their own bonuses in Baldur’s Gate 3. You don’t get any good noodle points for mixing and matching things that don’t make any sense. That’s sad for us true gamers but saves the developers time in return, let alone the headache they have to go through for coding in all of the choices you’ll make.

Now that you’ve heard the word bonus get thrown in, it’d be completely understandable that you want in on that as well. Stick around with us and do a bit of reading if you want to know which race is best suited for playing as a Barbarian!

Best Race for Barbarian

There’s a total of eleven classes to choose from as you create your character, but your Race can determine how powerful your class will be. Human is a nice pick if you don’t want to go too crazy. It gives you plus one to all of your abilities right at the start of the game.

Choosing different races will also affect your stats along with your own future in-game. There’s still Subraces to consider as well depending on what you pick. Just make sure you won’t pick a race that will ask you to put points into Intelligence.

Shield Dwarf

If you’re really looking for the best pick for your barbarian build, it would have to be the Dwarf. The Shield Dwarf specifically. Don’t you just get the sudden urge to toss a dwarf when you see one? Getting the Shield Dwarfas a subrace will give you plus 2 strength and 3 constitution right off the bat. You also get a proficiency for Battleaxes, which is considered the correct weapon to use as a barbarian.

Half-Elf

A second good choice, regardless if a little bit unorthodox are the Half-Elves. All subraceswill have Darkvision, which gives you the ability to navigate the dark without any negative modifiers. You still get plus two to your strength and constitution as well as an extra point towards charisma. Having an extra two points to your dexterity also helps you get the jump on your enemies.

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
