Fishing has quickly become one of the best side activities in Blox Fruits since its introduction in Update 27.1. Whether you’re after rare Devil Fruits, treasure chests, or just a chill way to level, fishing is more than just a mini-game, it’s a grind worth your time.

In this guide, I’ll show you how to unlock the brand-new Gold Rod and buy upgraded bait types that can boost your fishing success. I’ve already maxed out fishing and cleared a bunch of Angler quests, so I’ll also drop some personal tips in case you’re still catching up.

If you’re wondering where to start, how to craft the Gold Rod, and which bait to spend your money on, let’s dive right in.

How To Get New Fishing Gold Rod, New Bait Location

If you want to get to fishing ASAP, here’s a TL;DR on all the basic steps to get access to fishing in Blox Fruits:

  1. Go to First Sea (Sky Islands): Teleport → jump to the bottom → talk to the Angler NPC.
  2. Unlock the Gold Rod: Select Barter, gather materials (like Scrap Metal), and craft it.
  3. Buy New Baits: Grab Good Bait (8k) and Kelp Bait (12k) from the Angler.
  4. Equip & Fish: Equip the Gold Rod and upgraded bait from your Backpack/Stash → start fishing for better catches.

Step 1: Head Back to First Sea (Sky Islands)

To unlock the new upgrades, you’ll need to revisit the First Sea → Sky Islands.

  • Teleport to Sky Islands.
  • Jump all the way down to the bottom.
  • There you’ll find the First Sea Angler NPC — the key to unlocking rods and bait.

⚠️ As of now, I couldn’t find this option in Second or Third Sea, so it looks like only the First Sea Angler offers it (at least for now).

Watch this video guide on Step 1: heading back to the First Sea’s Sky Islands to start fishing in the Lightning Update.

Step 2: Unlocking the Gold Rod

Talk to the Angler and you’ll see the Gold Rod available in his shop.

  • Select it → click Barter → check the requirements.
  • One of the key materials is Scrap Metal (I farmed mine in Fire Village).
  • Craft it, and boom — the Gold Rod is yours.

You can equip it from your Backpack immediately. While it doesn’t have new skills (still just Reel Boost), it looks fantastic and gives you a sense of progression past the Beginner’s Rod.

Step 3: Buying New Baits

The Angler also sells new types of bait:

  • Basic Bait – the default bait you’ve probably been using.
  • Kelp Bait – costs 12,000 Beli.
  • Good Bait – costs 8,000 Beli (pricey, but effective).

Once bought, you’ll find them in Items → Usables → Stash. You’ll see all your bait options lined up: Basic, Kelp, and Good. From here on, I recommend skipping Basic Bait and going straight for Good or Kelp Bait for better catches.

Step 4: Testing the Gold Rod

I crafted the Gold Rod and tested it right away. While it doesn’t add new skills, the sleek design makes it stand out, and using higher-tier bait definitely helps improve your fishing luck.

Fishing with the Gold Rod is a nice upgrade, especially if you’re grinding for rare catches or just want to enjoy fishing without relying on the beginner gear.

Wrap-Up

That’s everything you need to know about getting the Gold Rod and new baits in Blox Fruits Update 27. For now, the upgrades are only tied to the First Sea Angler, but it’s possible that future updates will expand this system to Second and Third Sea.

I’ll keep testing and update this guide if more rods or bait types get unlocked — but for now, grab your Gold Rod, stock up on Good Bait, and start fishing like a pro.
