In case you missed it, Clover Retribution just dropped a massive new patch called the Devil Update. There are many new mechanics to keep in mind with this content drop, and it can be a bit overwhelming to go through all of the changes. In this guide, we will be giving you a brief summary that hopefully helps you understand the stuff that was just added to the game.

Complete Devil Update Guide

As the name of the update implies, one of the major additions to the game are the devil rifts. These are event spawns with a very low chance to appear. Only one player can enter these at a time, and there are a few things to keep in mind when they show up.

The entire server will be notified whenever one of these pops up, as indicated by a message in the chat box that states “Something feels off…”

Devils & Devil Rifts Info

First of all, these devil rifts will offer you a chance to temporarily boost your stats depending on what type the entity inside is. For starters, the color of the portal will show you what stat the devil inside has the most of, and the possibilities are the following:

  • Red Portal – Constitution
  • Yellow Portal – Dexterity
  • Orange Portal – Strength
  • Purple Portal – Intelligence

They can also come in different tiers, which determines how powerful they are. If the devil rift has black lightning around it, this means that the entity inside is at least tier 3 or above.

Choosing a Contract – Bound vs Unbound

Before you can form a union with the devil inside, you must decide between two contracts. Here is a quick summary of the differences between them:

  • Bound Contract – You will only gain up to 50% of the devil’s stats when called upon. You must also sacrifice either your EXP, Gold, Max HP, or get the Soul Drain effect.
  • Unbound Contract – You will gain up to 80% of the devil’s stats and you do not have to sacrifice anything. You will, however, have to defeat the devil in 1v1 combat.

Unbound is clearly the better choice, but you best be prepared for a tough fight. There will also be a way to get 100% of its stats in a future update, so you may as well practice your devil slaying skills.

Devil Union – Use & Progression

Forming a union with a devil will allow you to activate an aura that has the same color as the portal that you first entered in this process. This will increase your stats depending on the devil’s stats, and this mode will use up a special resource called devilish mana.

The only way to recover devilish mana is through the consumption of soul fragments. As long as you have a devil, you will be able to get different types of soul fragments from any NPCs in the game.

You can decrease the mana drain by leveling up the devil itself. This is achieved through the completion of various tasks that will depend on the type of devil that you have. Certain NPCs will also drop souls that can increase the devil’s stats by one per piece.

Devil Artifacts – Killing Devils

Even though you cannot have more than one devil at a time, you can still enter devil rifts and challenge the entity inside to a fight. Killing a devil this way after already obtaining your own will give you a chance to get one the following items:

  • Devil’s Horn – Allows you to reroll your devil’s appearance and name.
  • Devil’s Eye – Rerolls your devil’s stats. It should be noted that this does not take away your progression. It merely shuffles how its stats are spread out.
  • Devil’s Heart Increases the tier of your devil (likely won’t do anything if it is already tier 4).

Devil’s Advocate

On top of that, you can use these artifacts by finding and interacting with the Devil’s Advocate, which spawns in a “secret” location in the map.

The most notable feature of this NPC, however, is that it grants the ability to remove your current devil at the cost of 50,000 gold. You can also pay with Robux, though this is highly discouraged unless you have a lot of spare cash.

New Magic Added – Spatial

Another significant addition to this update is Spatial Magic, which is heavily centered around the ability of teleportation. At the moment, it has a very limited set of abilities, but they can be really useful for traveling.

Its current abilities are the following, with more confirmed to be coming in future patches:

  • Dimensional Doorway (Left Click) – This allows the user to create a portal that takes them tovarious waypoints scattered throughout the map. Very good utility for fast traveling and farming.
  • Dimensional Doorway (Right Click)The secondary feature of this ability will teleport you to the Spatial Laboratory or a library. Both of these offer certain activities that can give you unique items, such as exclusive potions.
  • Dimensional Bullets – The user fires a barrage of projectiles that deal damage from a distance. This is currently the only offensive ability for it.

Heavenly Restricted Update – Divine Restriction

The Heavenly Restricted status can now be upgraded to “Divine Restriction”, which grants you greater buffs that stack with the previous version. The steps you need to take in order to get it are the following:

  • Step 1. Have HR and Level 250 – In addition to being Heavenly Restricted, you must be at least level 250. You also need to retain this status for a total of 8 hours and 20 minutes. This will also include the time while you’re logged out.
  • Step 2. Wait for Apex – Once all of the previous conditions have been met, there is a chance for an NPC named Apex to spawn near you. There will be a chat notification when this happens.
  • Step 3. Defeat Apex – In order to gain Divine Restriction, you must kill Apex with at least a 30% damage contribution. Take note that you must be his target for this to matter.

In addition to getting the Divine Restriction status, you will also have a chance to get items from Apex, such as the Divine Nullifier and the Shroud of the Strongest.

New Arcanist Class

Finally, the last significant change to the game is the addition of the new Arcanist class. It is an INT scaling class that has a lot of area of effect attacks.

The requirements are simply to have the title “The Mana Wielder” equipped and be at least level 20. The title can be acquired at the Aetherstone Isle with a 20% drop rate.

Once you have all of the prerequisites met, find the Arcanist Class Teacher at the kingdom and do his quest. All you need to do is find and turn in 10 Mana Flowers and you will be granted the Arcanist class. Here are its abilities:

  • Arcane Shield – Creates a large barrier made out of condensed mana around the user. This can block projectiles and buffs the defense of nearby allies.
  • Arcane Wave – The user creates multiple pulses around them that deal area of effect damage.
  • Arcane Missiles – The user fires multiple magic missiles that will hit enemies from a considerable distance. This can track enemies when cast close enough.

And those are all of the major changes that came with this chunky update, with a few more miscellaneous additions such as new armor, weapons, and accessories. While you’re here, check out our best PVE magic tier list for Clover Retribution as well!
