We don’t really get that many space games out there compared to other genres which is sad. Cosmoteer is one of the newest addition to the space games list and it’s an amazing game where you can build your own spaceships, design them and let them fight as you explore a galaxy alone or with friends. The game features a lot of customization to your ships from different weapons, different looks and such. You also need to manage your crew in the game. In this guide we’ll help you grasp the basics of combat in the game, so you don’t blow up your ship!

Basic Combat Guide | Starship Architect & Commander | Cosmoteer

Making your ship can be daunting, learning about all of the weapons and stuff that you need to throw in there. Not to mention that you need to make the ship stylish as well! All of that ship customization won’t be enough though since you also need to know how to fight other ships! So these are some tips on how to not get blown up!

Armour Up!

Make sure that the important bits of your ship like the cockpit and reactor are behind armor. Losing the cockpit means losing the ship and losing the reactor means a big explosion that will either destroy your ship completely or make you hope it did.

Learn Movement

Clicking on a ship will make your ship attack it, simple right? Well you don’t really want to go head on unless your ship is built for it.

Shift-clicking on the line will make it so you can set which direction your ship will attack from. This is great if the enemy is more armored at the front. Zoom in and right click on the ship again to attack certain blocks, weapons, or rooms.

Take out weapons to reduce their damage, take out reactors for fireworks show and the cockpit to make them abandon the ship.

Capture Ships!

If you take out the ship’s cockpit, they’ll abandon the ship, if there’s an airlock you can then capture the ship for yourself. You can transfer the entire crew and leave your old ship or add it to your fleet!

Advanced Movement

When you hold shift while moving the “ghost” of your ship or if you turn it on the options to make it permanent, you can order ships to have more fine movements. You can order them to move somewhere while facing a certain direction, or have waypoints.

Control the ship yourself!

When selecting a ship you can then go to the lower left and activate Direct Control mode. That means you can control the ship yourself and use WASD to move and Q and E to rotate the ship while using the mouse to shoot the weapons. You can use this if you want a finer control for one of your ships.

Weapons

There’s a lot of different weapons in the game. Lasers and energy weapons are great at long range and are fairly accurate, great for taking down single blocks. The downside is that they take a lot of energy from your system.

Ballistic weapons don’t take energy but are inaccurate, they also take ammunition which you need to keep a stock of. Ballistic weapons can pierce through multiple blocks though and can even start fires.

Missiles can be expensive to stock up, but there’s multiple different missiles, from the basic explosive ones to EMP and even nukes. Beware though, missiles can be shot down by point defense or dodged by the enemy.

Congratulations you now know the basics of combat in Cosmoteer, now go out there and design your first ship! Many thanks to FallenShogun Gaming for showing everyone these tips, if you need more information on the subject then go check their video out here: Cosmoteer Basic Combat Guide – YouTube
