In Dead by Daylight, you play as either a killer hunting survivors or survivors trying to escape the killer. From what I said you could tell that the survivors can’t really kill the killer and can only run away. They’re not totally helpless though and can have a lot of defenses in the environments. They can drop pallets to impede the killer’s way or jump over windows because killers can’t do that. The killers also have a line-of-sight mechanic and can’t see very well like the survivors. There is one thing in the environment though that not every survivor knows about, and that’s the fire barrel.

So, you’re being haunted by the killer, they know where you are and are coming to get you. You’ve been leaving scratches everywhere but now you have no pallets or windows to jump over. You do see a fire barrel, that is your savior for today.
The fire barrel can easily break the line of sight of a killer. Keeping the barrel between you and the killer while he aimlessly wanders around wondering why you just disappeared is both funny and heart-racing. These cylinders of rusty steel and warmth can be a deciding factor between escaping or dying and you should take advantage of them more often!
It takes some getting used to, but once you’ve learned the best timing to jump behind a barrel as well as predicting the movement of the killer, you can easily dupe a killer by just running around the barrel.
Barrels also make sound, crackling sounds, which can mask your own sounds. Veteran killers rely on hearing where you are as well, and the crackling sounds of a barrel can drown your own most of the time.
Just remember that when you’re injured, your sound can sometimes be heard through the crackling sound of the barrel. Also, when you’re bleeding that’s just a dead giveaway for the killer, no pun intended. Sometimes killers won’t find your blood but don’t count on it.
