Derelict complete beginner's guide

The Roblox Dark Souls Derelict is here. And at Early Alpha, there’s quite the things to do right now. Way, way more content will happen in this game, we can feel it. But like a true definition of a grindy game, it’s so easy to get lost and not knowing what you’re even supposed to do. So, here’s the complete beginner’s guide for you all.

I’ve suffered so you don’t have to.

Complete Beginner’s Guide

You start out in a random of nowhere in a grassland. Behind you is a very tall dam wall that obviously tells you that’s where the edge of the map is. And when you go forward, there are chickens and random eggs.

Game Mechanics

Controls are simple. It’s W, A, S, D with jumps and rolls. Left click to attack and right click to block attack. And press E to interact. You can test out these things with the chickens in front of you. Truth to be told, I couldn’t actually hit the chickens but it doesn’t matter.

To your left is the player interface to look around. The first is the equipment and stats page, showing your health, soul, stamina, etc. There’s the inventory page where you also equip your items. And the skills page, which is a very important page.

There are currently 11 skills that you can raise individually and on top of that, the Insight level. Your separate skills are capped by your Insight level. You raise your Insight level by doing anything at all: killing (melee and ranged), logging, foraging, mining, cooking, enchanting, and more.

This game uses the Bonsai mechanic for warping, resting, and storing. Fast travel is also available once you’ve unlocked all Bonsai, which is a total of 12 at the time of the writing of this article. This is also where you spawn back when you die.

Now, you get one chance when you die to revive on the spot. The second time you die without ever returning to a Bonsai will kill you and drop a certain number of Crowns, the currency of the game.

TIPS: By leaving game after you’re done with an area and signing back in, you’ll immediately warp to most recent Bonsai you visited.

Gideon’s Camp

First, you need to head to Gideon’s Camp, which is like a 2-3 minute walk from your first spawn point. Follow the gravel path there. You will also see that interesting, first city, Monte Sant’Angelo. But there’s currently nothing in there to look for. The Blacksmith is who you want to talk to and you can see the Quest Marker.

This is also where you will be introduced to a lot of the mechanics and skills you have to grind.

Now, a lot of the time, there won’t be quest markers telling you where to go or what to do. After finishing the first few quests including the Pale Leather quest from Percival, it’s the grinding phase. Your main objective now is to quickly get the Bronze Sword because it’s just so much better. Then head to the den and start killing the bandits to grind for more Pale Leather to craft yourself some basic armor.

The best way to fight is to use the jump + attack move.

How long do you need to grind? You need to get to at least level 15 in Mining to unlock the Iron Ore. Unlocking better ores will unlock better weapons and equipment to wear. Craft and sell bronze ores to make more money to reach Crafting level 12 to make Iron bars necessary for the weapons. Switch to the Rogue armor set the blacksmith sell to make your grind at the den easier.

Exploration

The Bonsai will be the checkpoint you need to keep finding to make traveling a whole lot easier. But how do you explore this huge map?

Derelict makes that a less painful experience by having these clear gravel pathways. If you follow these paths, they’re bound to lead somewhere important, like the next area, Bonsai, or caves for ores.

Most people spend just way too many times getting confused of which way to go after this.

Following this upper path, you’ll also end up at a cave about 4-5 minute walk from Gideon’s Camp where the Iron Ores locations are at the Feeding Ground. Avoid the enemies at all costs because at your current level, you’ll get killed immediately. The Salt deposits are also here if you ever fancy yourself some fried rice.

Enemies do get stronger from here on out. But generally, as you get the Iron sword, both Iron Pickaxe and Axe, and the Rogue Armor and Pants, grinding becomes easier. Because if anything, you can always stay in the first Den to grind all the way through. But this is Derelict. Do you really want to just grind the basic enemies all the way through?

With this, you’ve gone past the beginner’s stage. The world is yours to explore. We have more Derelict content as well as different Bonsai locations, make sure to check them out!
