DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS is an online asymmetrical action game in which a squad of 7 regular civilians must survive the Raider, a classic Dragon Ball villain like Cell, Frieza, and Buu, who will hunt them down and grow into an unbeatable force.

In this game, we will see if it is a Legit Dragon Ball Game and if should you check it out. Let’s get started.

Is It A Legit DB Game? – Dragon Ball: The Breakers Review

This is a Dragon Ball game believe it or not. We are still able to play as our favorite characters and do some major ass-kicking just like every DB lover wants to do. But this whole game has a very different premise.

You will be playing as one of 7 characters that are running away and trying to survive while a villain character from the Dragon Ball world is chasing them around. It is something like Dead by Daylight but you can actually beat up the killer.

Very distant for a Dragon Ball game but…fun! Yup, we said it, it is surprisingly a fun game. To better understand it we will go over some of the Pros and Cons of it.

Pros

Let’s see the good things about this game.

Gameplay

The gameplay is actually very fun in this DB game. It isn’t anything like a normal DB game that you would expect of course, but maybe that’s why it feels like a breath of fresh air.

You are basically playing Dead by Daylight without the whole horror bloody gore premise. You will be fighting or trying to find different methods to take down the villain who is coming after you. This is actually very fun to do.

You will often items never see the same action repeating over and over again. You will be meeting up with different players and getting new scenarios whenever you start a new game.

You are actually able to find the Dragon and take control of your favorite DB characters. It is actually very well done and gives you lots of choices to choose from when playing it.

Dragon Tiers

Some of the best cosmetics, resources, and Spirit Siphon pulls are among these. To move forward, players can do both daily and weekly challenges, find a rare item or pay. It’s a nice touch that leads to one of the best parts of Dragon Ball: The Breaker.

It is definitely the thing that drives players to go forward. A little touch of rewards per day or per week can go a long way. The reward system in this game is very good and that is why it is a big Pro too. Dragon Tiers for the win!

Nice Skins & Cosmetics

Instead of focusing on different versions of Vegeta and Goku and cosmetics based on them, many items focus on the history of Dragon Ball.

The best example of the last Dragon Tier reward is the skin of the Farmer, who was in most Dragon Ball Z arcs.

This will give you a personal collective ambition, especially if you are a big lover of the DB franchise and the world. The game also has an intro with Mercenary Tao’s famous pillar, Bulma’s starting skin Oolong, and many more small things like this.

Price

Dragon Ball The Breakers costs a total of 20 dollars. This is a very low price considering just how much fun you will be having. Plus on top of all that, you will be able to get the battle pass which is basically making everything much more fun.

For this low price, if you are an enthusiast and passionate Dragon Ball follower, this game is definitely for you.

Skill To Win

Although there are players that are constantly crying over the Pay to Win in the games, surprisingly once you get to know Dragon Ball The Breaker, you will realize that this isn’t the case here.

Free players are given in-game currency that they can use to buy the same content that pays players can get. Yes, it takes longer, but it doesn’t change anything about the game, and you’ll still get the same overall game-play experience as a paying player.

The game does have gacha elements, but obtaining a rare 5-star drop as a survivor attempting to attack a raider won’t give you much more damage. It doesn’t change anything right now. Not the amount of money you throw into the game is more important than how well you play and plan.

Cons

How bad can it be?

RNG Element & Grind

Things are strange with the characters and their skills. You can use Spirit Siphon or train to get these. The current general rule seems to be that passive skills can only be gained through random chance, which can be as low as 1% in some cases.

This makes for a long grind. You can buy super attacks through training, but they cost a lot. Even with all the perks of being an early adopter, we think it requires roughly 30 to 40 matches to learn a skill.

This doesn’t involve leveling passive skills, which takes about the same amount of resources and time.

Low Character Selection

Not only is it a big grind, but there are also surprisingly few characters. There are eight transformations, not counting preorder bonuses and other types of DLC.

  • Goku
  • Vegeta
  • Gohan
  • Piccolo
  • Krillin
  • Trunks
  • Tien
  • Yamcha

Those are all the characters that are all part of this group. Spirit Siphon Vol. 1 is this, so there will probably be more characters, but it’s unlikely that they’ll be added before Feb. 2, 2023, when the first volume ends, unless they’re unlocked in some other way.

Still Needs Work

It does feel like a lot of things are missing and the game does have its early flaws. But it isn’t anything to completely break your fun of the game and players have been playing for 50 hours even without encountering a bug.

It still does need work from the devs, but we are sure they will add on the game as soon as possible.

Overall & Rating

This isn’t anything like DB at all, but still, it surprised us and is a very fun game! It does have its flaws and things that can be improved upon, but since it is in a very early release state we are having our hopes high.

Summary

It is a very fun Dragon Ball game. Feels like a breath of fresh air that will give you the same Dragon Ball feeling plus something of Dead by Daylight. For a roughly 20$ game, it is simply a fantastic experience and a 4 out of 5. We definitely recommend trying it out because it is a blast!
