Capcom just recently released the sequel to the original Dragon’s Dogma on PC (and also on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X & Series S) called Dragon’s Dogma 2. If you are new to the series, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an Action RPG in which players can freely roam the huge world provided by the game. You can use Swords, Bows and even Chant Magic to fight different foes you encounter. Just like similar games, there is an Item Spoiling system which you need to keep an eye on. Continue reading to learn more about it.
How To Prevent Food From Spoiling
When you start out playing Dragon’s Dogma 2, the game tells you about its Time Progression system. Everything in the game such as Quests and Food Items are affected by this Time Progression. So, in due time, any unused Food Items you have in your inventory gets spoiled.
Once a Food Item is spoiled, it no longer has the same benefits it used to have. And consuming spoiled Food Items can have negative effects on your character (such as getting Poisoned).
There are multiple ways to prevent your Food Items from getting spoiled. Those are discussed below:
Using The Food Items
One of the ways to stop Food Items from getting spoiled is by simply consuming the Food Items. There are a lot of tough enemies that you have to face in Dragon’s Dogma 2 which will force you to use the Food you have to replenish your Health.
In those cases, some of us (even including me) can be stingy and try to save up the Food Items. But it is much better to take advantage of those Food Items compared to letting them get spoiled.
Storing Them In The Item Storage
If you are like me, you would prefer to horde your Food Items for boss fights. In which case, store your Food Items in the Item Storage. Any Food Items stored in the Item Storage will not get spoiled.
The game explicitly mentions this in one of the tutorial prompts: “items that would grow stale or rotten in your pack will be kept fresh for as long as they are stored.” You can find this quote in Item Storage under Shops and Facilities section of the Tutorial Logbook. If you are not aware of the Tutorial Logbook, it is located in the History option.
TIP: If you are in a location where you cannot access the Item Storage, but you have Food Items in your inventory that may get spoiled. Then, load those Food Items onto a Pawn. Afterwards, dismiss the Pawn. What this does is automatically put the Food Items that the Pawn had into the Item Storage.
Thus, store all your excess Food Items in the Item Storage whenever you can. You can later take them out when you actually need them. This will also help you in avoiding the annoying Encumbered State (or Over Encumbered) which can be a pretty nasty handicap.
BUG NOTE: Some players have reported that their Food Items got spoiled even when they were stored in the Item Storage. Hopefully, it will be fixed by Capcom soon but for the meantime, make sure to keep that in mind.
Combining Items
There is an Item Combination system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 in which you can experiment by combining various items to discover new recipes or just use the recipes already known. This is very useful as you can combine your Food Items before they spoil to make something new (prolonging the spoiling time of the Food Items).
You can also take advantage of this system by combining Food Items that have already spoiled to get something better than the original spoiled Food Items you used for combination.
TIP: Keep a Pawn with the Logistician Specialization in your party when you are exploring. This lets the Pawn combine Items on its own when they are close to getting spoiled.
Having The Stasis Augment
The Sorcerer Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 comes with an Augment called Stasis which reduces the rate at which your Items get spoiled. This Augment is unlocked at Rank 4 and as long as you have it equipped, your Items will spoil slower.
If you do not like playing as a Sorcerer, then you can make one of your Pawns a Sorcerer and make them equip the Augment. Any Items stored with this Pawn will spoil at a slower rate.
This completes this guide on how to prevent your Food from getting spoiled in Dragon’s Dogma 2. One of the things you are going to enjoy in this game are boss fights. Why not try fighting the Chimera? It can be a tough battle which is why we recommend checking this post for guidance: Is It Possible To Chop Off Chimera Tail.
