Puzzles in Genshin Impact are like locks that need picking. It’s so simple that almost anyone can solve it, regardless if you have the dexterity for it. But it does get to a point where the task becomes so mundane that most reasonable people prefer to skip it altogether.
One of the many lootable chests inside of the Fortress of Meropide will be hiding behind more turnable gears. You can’t really skip the puzzle, but you might as well read through the guide and save yourself a little bit of extra time getting to where you need to go.
Gear Drivetrain Luxurious Chest Puzzle
The area below can be accessed by making use of the Waypoint on the Production Zone. It’s the one that’s sitting next to the elevator you’ve been using to access the cafeteria while you were busy with working on the widgets.
You’ll need a Gear Drivetrain to be able to work with the Multidirectional Connection Control Drive Valve in the lower levels. You can get those while you’re trying to access Supply Warehouse 1.
The arrows on the gears need to point towards the western side of the room. That’s where the Luxurious Chest Puzzle is sitting.
Once you get the gears to point in the direction provided in the image below, a doorway on top of a ladder will open.
You need to reposition the gears until they start pointing at each other. Make sure the bigger gear is pointing towards the door you need to open as well.
Don’t forget to take the Gear Drivetrain with you before moving on. You’re going to need it again rather shortly when you get to the next room.
Run over to the console on the right to get the drivetrain started. Let it do its thing as it cycles through the doorways.
The Gear Drivetrain needs to point towards the wall in order for you to access the tunnel on the other side. Wait for the arrow and go through the vault door to open the Luxurious Chest in the tunnel.
