Genshin Impact has just released its new update and it is brimming with new content. This includes a brand new area that players can explore while also fulfilling new quests with interesting rewards. One of these quests is located in the giant new Fortress Meropide location.
In this guide, we will show you a complete guide for the Scenes from Life in Meropide: Safe Operation quest. This quest also ties into another quest so it is quite important if you are dedicating to doing all the quests in the new update. Let’s dive in and see how you can complete it.
Scenes from Life in Meropide: Safe Operation
The Scenes from Life in Meropide: Safe Operation quest is located in the Fortress Meropide Location. It will have you exploring quite a bit of the new map, including new zones you perhaps hadn’t seen before. It also ties into other quests on this new map. The steps to follow for this quest are:
- Go to the Abandoned Production Zone. You can access this area by locating an elevator in the Production Zone: Lower Level area.
- Approach the yellow marker and talk to Caterpillar.
- Operate the drive valve to open access to Supply Warehouse 1. This is a puzzle that is needed to open the door nearby.
- Pick up the Gear Drivetrain from the drive valve mechanism and enter the new room.
- Install the Gear Drivetrain and operate the mechanism to solve another puzzle. This will open the Supply Warehouse 1 door.
- Enter inside and talk to the trapped person. This will complete the quest.
Complete Walkthrough
The Scenes from Life in Meropide: Safe Operation quest is automatically obtained when you talk to Caterpillar for the Game of the Rich quest. Therefore, this quest ties into a much larger series of quests. Both of these quests take place in the Fortress Meropide.
Start by leaving the room where you obtained the quest. You will find yourself in the large Administrative Area of the Fortress Meropide, which has multiple floors.
The objective you will have here is: Go to the Abandoned Production Zone. Check out this guide for detailed directions on how to Go to the Abandoned Production Zone.
The first thing you want to do is go to the lower floors of the Abandoned Production Zone and make your way to the West side.
This is where the elevator is located that leads to the Production Zone: Lower Level. The location of where you can find the elevator is marked in the map below.
Take the elevator down to the Production Zone: Lower Level. When you exit the elevator, you will find yourself in another cavernous area that is shaped in the form of a circle. Turn to the left towards the large hallway that is to the left of this circular area.
This is where you’ll find another elevator that goes further down. When you enter the elevator, you will get a prompt that says: Go to the Abandoned Production Zone. Click on it and the elevator will activate, taking you down.
Immediately, you will see that there are two tunnels that you can go towards. Ignore the one that has a grate at the end and instead go for the tunnel that is open.
When you walk ahead, you will see a yellow marker on a platform. Go to this platform and this will start a conversation with Caterpillar.

The drive valve is the mechanism that is located in the center of the room that you can find by going down the stairs.
The mechanism looks complicated and when you go near it, a description will pop up which will make it seem more complex than it actually is.
This mechanism is used to open the door that you can see nearby, which can be accessed by climbing the ladder.
You basically need to get the arrow pointing on the door by activating the mechanism to get it to open. This is a very simple puzzle as you will see ahead.
To start this mechanism, go to the lever nearby and activate it. After doing so, the camera will change and show you an overhead view of the mechanism.
You don’t have to do anything, just wait for the arrow to align with the arrow in the Southeast corner as it moves in a clockwise direction.
Once the arrow aligns, choose the Stop option and this will stop the mechanism. The arrows will align and you will know you got it right when it becomes golden. After that, you will see that the door will open.
Before going to the door, you will need to get the Gear Drivetrain, as this will be needed in the next area. This is the other arrow in the mechanism that you did not use for the puzzle. Go up to it, and you will get the option to Remove Gear Drivetrain.
Go up the ladder and enter the tunnel, dropping down into the room. You will find yourself in a smaller room with a mechanism in the middle.
Up ahead, you will see another ladder going up to a locked door. This is the locked door that leads to Supply Warehouse 1.
Start by approaching the mechanism in the middle. You will get the option to Install the Gear Drivetrain that you got from the previous puzzle.
Install it and then activate the lever that is next to it. Wait for the arrow to start pointing towards the Supply Warehouse 1 door.
When the arrow is pointing in the direction, go to the lever and select the Stop option. This will open the door and you can climb up the ladder and enter the small tunnel. Up ahead, you will see there is a trapped man standing inside next to a yellow marker.
Approach the yellow marker and this will start a conversation with the trapped man. He will thank you for saving him and this will complete the Scenes from Life in Meropide: Safe Operation Quest.
You will get a bunch of rewards. Look around for a chest and this will provide you with even more rewards.
