With Gotham Knights only a few days away, the hype is through the roof. After doing a stellar job with their marketing by releasing previews, gameplay trailers, and an excellently well-done cinematic trailer, people are hyped about the prospect of controlling one of the Knights to protect Gotham.
Players Outraged at Next-Gen Exclusive Gotham Knights Being Only At 30 FPS
Of course, some are not happy about the decision of killing Batman. But the story alludes that something may have happened to the Dark Knight. Something that the Court of Owls had to do with. After all, why did they include a shot of an owl on Bruce Wayne’s headstone?
Regardless of that, the hype train is now at full speed as we near release. The fans are hyped, the devs are happy, and the Knights are ready to step in to take the Batman’s place.
That is, until this bit of news was released.
Yikes.
This bit of information sparked an outrage in the Gotham Knights community. After weeks of doing incredibly marketing work to get people hyped for the game, this bit of news is all it takes for the hype to just immediately die and be replaced with anger.
But why? Why are people so mad that Gotham Knights cannot hit 60 FPS on next generation consoles? Well, this should answer that for you.
Back in May, a gameplay video for Nightwing and Red Hood (who I will be playing as when the game releases) was released. It showcased the combat and many activities you can do while playing. At the end of the video, you could see that the previously announced PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were no longer with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
It was later revealed that the last generation consoles were canceled. The reasoning behind this was so the developers can “provide the players with the best possible gameplay experience”. As you can imagine, this caused a commotion among the fans who were excited to play the game, but no longer can because they are still using last-generation consoles.
Until now, people are still upset about that decision, often asking the devs to release it on last gen consoles. But with this bit of news now out to the public, the outrage sparks once again. People are upset that Gotham Knights sacrificed their last-gen versions to improve the best experience, only for the next-gen versions to be capped at 30 FPS with no Performance Mode, which is prominently featured in other games.
It has gotten so bad, that people are actively getting refunds for the game.
While some may not be bothered by the revelation that the game is not going to be playing at a stable 60 FPS, people are still right to be upset that a next gen exclusive game, one that promises “the best possible gameplay experience”, will not be delivering on that promise.
“Not willing to play a current gen exclusive* game at 30 FPS. Do you own current gen consoles? Playing AAA games at 60 FPS is the standard now. There is no current gen (PS5/Xbox Series) AAA game that only runs at 30 FPS. It’ just simply not acceptable. We know better now.” A Twitter user by the name of alexABXY points out, which I wholeheartedly agree with.
We are now in the generation where consoles can rival PC in terms of performance. (Not the super high-end PCs. More like the mid to high-end range PCs). Games like Spider-Man Remastered can handle 60 FPS with Ray Tracing on, and you mean to tell me that Gotham Knights can’t?
This type of news should have been disclosed early on, instead of a few days before release. If you are promising players that you are delivering the best version of the game, then 60 FPS must be included. If you wanted to release Gotham Knights with 30 FPS, then they should not have canceled the last-gen versions of the game.
That way, players who have pre-ordered the game, or who are planning to buy it, will know what they are getting. Releasing this bit of information just a few days before release just looks shady to some people.
