Grounded: Best Base Locations

When playing survival games, it’s important to find a spot in the map that lets you rest after a long day of fighting off monsters and collecting resources. A base is your safe space in a world full of danger, so having a good spot is detrimental to a good run in a survival game. In Grounded, that rule still applies here. Having a good base is a must, and there are tons to be found in Grounded. In this guide, we will show you the best base locations or places to set up base for you and your friends.

Best Base Locations – Grounded

One of the best places you can build a base in early in the game is The Mysterious Machine. There’s not a lot of bugs that surround the area (though there are some that will check the area every once in a while, but not frequently). There’re also some basic resources to get you through the early game, a Field Station, a juice box to help your thirst, and it is in the middle of all the early game areas.

But the keyword is “early game”. Once you start reaching the middle of the game, the resources are not enough and you need to start looking for more advanced resources, which means you have to travel far for these new resources. When that happens, it’s time to pack up and find a new base to settle in.

An area where you can set up early in game with resources and equipment that you can use until you reach mid game is The Oak Lab Entrance. This area has a BURGL ready for use and you also have a ton of perks that you can use with the lab. The area is covered pretty well, making it hard for enemies to spot you. This area is much more centralized compared to The Mysterious Machine, and you have the option to run away to the lab and hide from enemies.

The big con about this base is that you will have Wolf Spiders nearby. They live under the Oak Tree and they will go around the area during the day and evening. These are very dangerous bugs to face, and encountering one can lead to death. But if you’re smart enough, you can easily hide from them.

The Hedge Ascent is located in the southeast area of the map. You can set up base here from early game to mid game, and you can access this area when you’re done with the Grounded Oak Lab. A vast majority of the Hedge is dangerous and full of dangers around every corner, The Hedge Ascent (the area of West Hedge with the giant paper clip), is actually pretty safe. You have a ton of resources and a juice box to keep you hydrated.

The downside to this area is that you are pretty much far from the other areas. The Hedge Ascent is located on the very far corner of the map, so travelling to other areas will take too long and will drain more resources than when you have a base in The Mysterious Machine or The Oak Lab. Not to mention the Grounded Broodmother is close to you.

If you’re entering the mid game, which you will know once you are done with the Grounded Hedge Lab, you will have access to the Pond Lab Superchip from the BURGL. After which, you can purchase the Buoyant Supports for 2500 Raw Science. With that, you can build a base on top of the Pond. Underwater enemies rarely attack, plenty of resources around you since you are even more centralized compared to the previous locations.

Even though underwater enemies will rarely attack, they do a ton of damage when they do. Not to mention the giant Koi Fish that roams the pond. You also have a lot of Mosquitos circling the area. And when you do go out to get resources, you have to swim. That means anything from under the water and up in the air can attack you and you can barely do anything to stop it. It’s pretty risky, but it’s a cool spot to have a base.

The Woodcutting Field Station is a base you can set up in once you hit mid to late game. It’s located in the Upper Yard (which has a limited number of safe areas). Enemies are very rare, almost non-existant, and you have a Field Station to rely on. It has great resources around the area, but there’s a lot of dry grass.

Similar to Hedge Ascent, this area is located in a corner of the map, which means travelling to gather resources, or traveling to any area really, will take some time and a lot of resources. There’s also very limited space, meaning that you can’t build much, and food is scarce unless you go to the much more dangerous areas.

On the west side of the shed is the Grounded MXIR Modules and Javamatic, which is a tricked out coffee maker. The ground south of the Javamatic is weirdly safe, but there will be some bugs that will come in occasionally. You can build in the open ground much easier, and with the large supply of basic resources available, you will be having little trouble doing so.

But once the campaign mission takes place here, the base will be severely overrun and may suffer a lot of damage, to the point that it may be completely destroyed. While it is also unlikely that enemies will appear, in the event they do, it will be some of the most dangerous bugs to appear.

These areas have pros and cons, as do other areas, but these are some of the best areas you can build a base in. Not all of them will appeal to everyone, but some might find the idea of having a water base cool or a base in the Upper Yard convenient. It’s only a matter of preference.
