The idea of dragging your inventory around a settlement in Starfield may seem like an okay chore to do at first. If you like roleplaying, then there’s no problem with that whatsoever. But other people sometimes just want to have a few items on hand wherever they go. So, this is where Cargo Links come in handy.

A tutorial will pop up when you plop down your first cargo link, but the info you get from that may not be enough. This is where we come in handy next, we’ll show you how cargo links work so you can make the most use out of them when you’re done reading!

Cargo Links lets you move around resources from one outpost to another. You can find these structures under the Miscellaneous tab group once you’ve placed your Outpost Beacon. The idea is to have at least one Cargo Link per outpost on the planet of your choice.

These cargo links only work in pairs, what that means is that you can’t string together five outposts simultaneously with one console.

Each cargo link can be connected by interacting with the console at the base of the building. You can also get the Shipping Magnate Achievement if you connect 5 outposts using cargo links.

You’re going to need a few resources to be able to put these cargo links together. Find a merchant that you can bother and buy the following items:

  • 72 units of Aluminum
  • 12 units of Beryllium
  • 120 units of Iron
  • 12 units of Zero Wire

If the merchant of your choice doesn’t have enough resources, simply b̶l̶o̶w̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶s̶t̶o̶r̶e̶  find a place to sit and wait for 24 hours to refresh its inventory. Walk back to your ship and store your cargo when you’re done so we can get started on building.

Slam an Outpost Beacon right into the ground and go to your miscellaneous tab to bring up the Cargo Link. Place the cargo link on a relatively flat surface, this will use some of the resources you bought earlier. You’re going to need a second outpost first if you want to be able to do anything.

Run away from your initial outpost and find the yellow outline. Go beyond that and a little bit further before you place another Outpost Beacon.

Same with the last outpost, place your second cargo link wherever you like. Now we’re ready to link our first two outposts. To link your first and second outposts, go up to the cargo link you just placed. There should be a small staircase that you can use with a console at the top.

Interact with the screen next, there should be a button on the screen’s interface that says, “Cargo Link.” Click on that to link to the first outpost you just made.

The connection will turn green, letting you know that a connection has been established. This counts as connecting two cargo links and you need a total of five if you want the achievement.

Keep in mind that you can only connect in pairs, you can’t connect your outposts in a chain or net structure. This isn’t Factorio or Satisfactory (unless mods get involved).

So, you’re going to need a total of six outposts with functioning cargo links. But other than that, you now have outposts that can send resources from one area to the other!

And that’s how Cargo Links work in Starfield. Don’t forget to make a separate save file if you want to get that achievement. Those resources will have its uses later on! Check out our guide on how to assign crew members to outposts as well if you haven’t yet.

Here we have Alexis, he's been gaming ever since the second Famicom came out. Which is probably the reason why he goes back to platformers every now and then. Somewhere down the line he started getting more and more fascinated about looking at maps change colors for three to eight hours straight. If he's not out strategizing and beating the life out of his space bar in that order there's a good chance you can find him playing an FPS or talking someone's ear out about how game balance gets in the way of realism. You can tell that he really likes getting the full experience of whatever he gets his hands on.
