Risk of Rain 2 has just released a brand new expansion called Seekers of the Storm, and with it came an update that completely broke a lot of things in very baffling ways. If you are here, then you probably got sick of all the bugs that you can run into whether or not you own the DLC. In this guide, we’ll show you how to rollback your game and play an older version instead!

How to Downpatch – Complete Guide

First up, you will want to download the Risk of Rain 2 Version Selector, which can be found here: RoR2VersionSelector on GitHub. Upon getting there, ignore everything else and scroll down so you can click on the “Download it here” link.

This will download a file called “binary.zip”. So, next, extract the contents, preferably in its own separate folder to avoid cluttering up wherever you downloaded the archive to.

Once everything is extracted, look for “RoR2VersionSelector.exe” and open it. Here, you should see the following window pop up alongside some instructions at the bottom:

Just pull up the dropdown box under Version Selection and search for whichever patch you wish to roll back to. In this example, we have the Devotion Update selected.

DISCLAIMER: Now, it should be noted that the program will require you to enter your Steam username & password. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that, fair enough, I wouldn’t either. The creator did say that it doesn’t save your credentials, so just use it at your own risk.

Once everything is filled up, just click on Download to start downloading the patch itself. When that’s done, you just have to press “Copy Downloaded Version to Steam Install.

Finally, you will need to enter the folder where your Risk of Rain 2 copy is installed. If you are unsure of how to find it, just right click on Risk of Rain 2 in your Steam Library and then click on Browse local files under Manage. This should open the folder where it’s installed.

And that is pretty much all you need to do in order to rollback your game’s version. If you’re want to learn more about why you might want to do this, check out our article on why Seekers of the Storm is getting negative reviews for more information!
