We all know that some of these JRPGs can be a bit grindy. Sometimes, we just go through the grind to enjoy the characters and the story. There are some games though that let you ease the grind somewhat. In Star Ocean The Second Story R, there is a weapon that you can get early on that can help you a lot in fights. It’s basically a sword that has a ridiculous amount of damage, especially for early game.
In this guide, we’ll show you how you can get the best early weapon in Star Ocean The Second Story R. Now, let’s see where we can find this OP weapon!
How To Get The Best Early Weapon
First off, you’ll need to do a couple of things first and one of them is to get the Pickpocketing specialty. You usually get this specialty in mid-game, but you can get it much earlier.

Now that you can Pickpocket, you can then go to the city of Marze. That’s the city to the northeast of Krosse City. You can use the map below as a reference on where to go.
Once you’re there, you’ll want to save near the entrance. That’s because you’ll need to pickpocket and there’s a chance you’ll fail. You can only pickpocket 3 times per NPC, so it’s best to save.
NOTE: To increase your chances of pickpocketing remember to increase your Courage and Poker Face skills.
From the entrance, go to the right until you see this old man NPC. Pickpocket him and try to get the item “Goodie Box.”
Once you get the item from the old man, you’ll want to save again. That’s because opening the Goodie Box has a chance to give 3 random items. What we want to get is the Sword of Marvels, which has a 1% chance of dropping.
What you’ll want to do is open the Goodie Box, and when you don’t get the sword load and try again until you do.
Once you get the Sword of Marvels, then you can marvel at its stats! The sword itself has a whopping 1100 ATK!
