The early stages of battles in Starfield can be a pain as you cannot target enemy ship engines just yet. But you’ve seen people doing that and wonder how you can do the same. There are requirements before you can do that and own the sky against other ships. But no worries, the mechanics are easy in Starfield once you get the hang of it.

How to Target Enemy Ship Engines

To be able to lock on or target enemy ship engines in Starfied, you must have a rank in this particular skill tree.

Head over to Skills, under Tech, and Rank 1 of Targeting Control Systems is all you need to be able to target ships. Upgrading this skill tree further will make locking in faster and on Rank 4, you will have increased system damage.

Afterwards, once you find an enemy ship, try to keep your interface locked on the enemy. You’ll see a bar underneath that says, “locking in” and it slowly fills up.

Once it reaches “Target Lock” as shown below, you can start firing with the help of the system’s aimbot. This keeps your spread a lot more manageable, especially if you’re playing on a controller.

A tip is to make sure to lock on them first before you start firing. While some hostile ships may notice and start firing first, you can lock on from a distance before flying in.

That’s how you can lock on an enemy’s ships in Starfield!
