First, the game has a multitude of UI elements, and I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with them. Your depth indicator shows how deep you are, which affects the danger level.
Your status effects are displayed here, and you can find more details in your inventory by pressing Tab. Moreover, Stats are also crucial, especially if you’re into min-maxing.
Morale is another important aspect of the game. If it drops to zero, you’ll despair, and your character will start taking damage until you die.
You can boost morale by eating good food or drinking ale. Staying in the light can help restore your morale as well.
As for light level, you can manage them using torches, but remember that they don’t affect your overall light level. For that, you’ll need to craft standing or wall torches.
For combat, when facing nimble or evasive enemies like bats and wolves, utilizing the targeting system is a game-changer.
By pressing the middle mouse wheel (default binding), you can lock onto your target, making it significantly easier to deal with these elusive foes. Trust me, it’s a real game-changer!
Armor is essential, but it tends to wear out quickly, so consider crafting multiple sets, especially as you progress further in the game.
Also, as you delve deeper into The Mines and face more challenging terrain, knowing how to execute a mid-air roll can be a game-changer.
It could literally save your life if you ever find yourself in a precarious fall. Keep this maneuver in your arsenal.
Stamina is important too. As you perform actions, you lose stamina, and the only way to restore it early on is by resting. However, as you advance, you’ll be able to craft stamina-restoring foods.
One of the most valuable secrets to making your stamina last much longer is by combining sprinting and jumping as you traverse the map.
This “dynamic duo” can extend your stamina reserves by a whopping 80%! Give it a try, and you’ll thank me later.
When you sleep, you wake up with low food, so prepare some food to eat upon waking. Sleeping also passes time, which can be useful for tasks like cooking.
Fast travel points, also called Map Stone, can be unlocked. However, you’ll need Black Diamonds to craft them. You can find black diamonds by destroying orc camps and opening their chests.

Building a Repair Smithy is highly recommended. It allows you to repair your equipment for metal fragments.
Stone Hearth mechanics create a crafting area around you, so you can access items in nearby chests without carrying them in your inventory.
For a bigger backpack, you’ll need to find the Elven Quarter, where you can gather hides and unlock the recipe.

Pallets can also help with storage and organization, although they’re less efficient than chests.
You won’t have access to stairs until you unlock Granite, so consider waiting to build your fort until you can use this material for a more appealing look.
Lastly, consider using a bow for hunting, as it can be helpful in catching elusive creatures like the Stags. Also, crossbows may become available as you progress further.
