Everything You Need to Know About Gear in Odin: Valhalla Rising
Gear Types
All of the gear you can find in the game is ranked by each of these rarities:
- Common (White)
- Uncommon (Green)
- Rare (Blue)
- Epic (Purple)
- Legendary (Orange)
- Mythic (Red)
Gear is equipped across several different slots. These are: Weapon, Helmet, Chest, Gloves, Boots, and Accessories (Necklace, Rings, Earrings, Belt, Cloak). Some sets offer powerful bonuses, which activate when wearing multiple pieces from the same gear line.

When you get to the mid-to-late game, gear power often outweighs character level. This means a lower-level player with high-grade gear can outperform a higher-level one with weaker equipment. If that information was able to convince you to start focusing on gear, then make sure to follow the rest of the steps!
Early Game
From levels 1 to 40, your focus should be on completing story quests and introductory dungeons to quickly replace Common and Uncommon gear. These activities reward you with basic Rare-grade items suitable for your class. Make sure to participate in beginner events because they often provide limited-time rewards like full Rare sets, enhancement scrolls, and stat-boosting accessories.

Avoid investing enhancement materials in anything below Rare. You want to use free or abundant scrolls to boost your gear to +3 to +5, but do not go beyond that! Your goal is to gather enough materials and in-game currency to prepare for crafting or upgrading to Epic-grade gear later. Also, keep an eye on event shops and login rewards, which may offer class-locked gear appropriate for your build.

Mid-Game
At this stage, gear progression becomes more targeted. For levels 40 to 80, your primary sources for upgrades include field bosses, world bosses, and regional dungeons. From here, you can expect drops from Rare to Epic gear. These dungeons, most of the time, have specific loot tables, so check which ones drop pieces relevant to your class.

You should begin crafting using materials earned from quests and dismantling old gear. Focus your crafting on Epic items that align with your build. When attempting to do Enhancement, aim to get your Epic gear to +5 or higher, as stat gains are significant. However, I wouldn’t recommend enhancing Rare gear too far beyond +5, as it may not be cost-effective.
Use your class knowledge to evaluate which stats are most important. For example, some classes may prefer Crit Rate and Attack Speed, while others benefit more from flat Damage or HP boosts. Field bosses also drop gear crafting blueprints and upgrade stones, so plan your farming routes accordingly. Keep in mind that limited-time events during this phase often include Epic-grade gear boxes or materials, so time your efforts around them for maximum benefit.
Endgame
When you’ve reached the endgame stage, gear progression revolves around acquiring Legendary and Mythic gear. For levels 80 and above, you can either craft these items using rare materials or obtain them as drops from elite raids and bosses. You’ll be grinding high-level dungeons and participating in large-scale raid content. Guild participation becomes especially important here, as many bosses require coordinated teams.

Enhancement also becomes a big deciding factor in whether you get amazing gear or nothing at all. If you’re feeling a bit risky, you could play around and try enhancing your Legendary Gear to the max. Doing so offers bigger stat jumps, but it has the potential to destroy it. If you have some available, I recommend you use protection scrolls or fail-stacking strategies where applicable.
Even though you are at your strongest in the endgame stage, you still want to participate in Events, elite zones, and world bosses. They often drop refinement stones, attribute crystals, and enhancement scrolls needed to push your gear to its highest potential!
Additional Tips
- Many players can fall into the trap of over-upgrading weak or temporary gear. Try to avoid this! It wastes valuable materials on items that will be replaced very easily. These are much better spent on high-tier enhancements later in progression.
- Another frequent mistake is ignoring the synergy between skills and gear. This means building a loadout without considering how your stats and equipment interact can lead to a weaker character in general.
- Disregarding class-specific gear requirements can result in equipping items that don’t optimize your class’s strengths, so always tailor your gear to your class’s primary stats and abilities.
- Progressing efficiently requires patience. Rushing enhancements or spreading resources too thin can set you back.
- Regularly participating in events can provide free or discounted upgrades and materials.
- Finally, if you’re the type to always look for what’s next, keep an eye on upcoming patches and regional server trends. They can shift the meta and introduce new gear options that affect your long-term planning.
That’s all you need to know about the best way to progress with your gear in Odin: Valhalla Rising! Upgrading your gear takes a lot of time and effort. With the right mindset, you can also bag the best Legendary Gear if you work hard enough for it. Just don’t go too overboard with the enhancements, alright?
