If you’re playing Odin: Valhalla Rising free-to-play, chances are you’ve made it decently far into the main quest, only to get absolutely wrecked by that cursed Spider Boss. Yeah, same here. This fight is no joke. I had to stop progressing completely just to upgrade my character and figure out how to survive its buffed-up rampage. The good news? I beat it at 11.2K Combat Power with the right prep, and I’m here to help you do the same. Let’s break it all down and get you past this F2P boss wall.
How to Beat Spider Boss as F2P
Ideally, you want your CP (Combat Power) around 11,000–12,000, depending on your class. That’s where the Shelobia boss fight starts becoming manageable. But if you’re under that mark, don’t sweat it. There are several ways to squeeze out a few extra hundred CP without spending a dime. Here are pointers you should know if you want to get past the Spider Boss.

Buff Up Like Crazy
Start by stacking every buff available. You want at least 8, and possibly 9 if your class has a self-buff skill.
- Food Buffs: Buy 4 different types from the regular merchant.
- Scroll Buffs: Grab 4 more from the Guild Shop.
- Class Buff: Some classes (like Paladin) have one built in. Use it!
These buffs make a huge difference, and early on, you likely have scrolls saved up without even realizing it. Always check your inventory.
Potion Prep (and One Game-Changer Tip)
This tip alone made a massive difference for me:
- Teleport to Howling Garms’ Moor, the world boss in the center of the map.
- Find the NPC in the southern part of the area.
- Buy high-grade potions, they restore 60 HP instead of the regular 45.
It may not seem like much, but over a long fight, this is a lifesaver. Also, grab a 5% HP-restoring elixir (Guild Shop sells these). It’s an extra heal that doesn’t eat your potion cooldown.

Skill Setup and Auto Management
Make sure your skills are:
- Fully unlocked and leveled (up to Lv30–35).
- Organized in Auto Skills L for smoother rotations.
And don’t forget to activate your class buff manually before entering combat.
Gear & Easy CP Gains
If you’re still in base gear, time to upgrade!
- Enhance all gear to +5
- Accessories to +1 at least
- Make sure you’re wearing the best gear you can equip (crafted or from quests)
Then knock out any side quests in Midgard and Utenheim. They often give materials or boost CP with minimal effort.
I personally gained around 500 CP just by:
- Opening hidden chests
- Finishing leftover side quests
- Sniping field elite bosses for lucky drops

Combat Strategy: Movement is Everything
Now to the actual fight. Here’s what worked for me:
- Start the Fight Safe
- Don’t rush in. Keep dodging.
- Use Scan Mode to spot and target spider adds fast.
- Handle the Minions Smartly
- Try this genius positioning trick:
- Lure the spider to a corner and engage. When mini spiders spawn, run to the opposite corner. Big Mom will chase you, but the babies won’t follow far. Do this 2x, and you can basically solo the boss without worrying about the adds. It’s sneaky. It’s cheesy. But it works.
- Try this genius positioning trick:
- Watch for Buff Phases
- The Spider Boss has two dangerous buffs:
- First Buff: Increases attack/cast/movement speed.
- Second Buff (Final Phase): Deals way more damage, lasts about 3 minutes.
- The Spider Boss has two dangerous buffs:
During the second buff, keep moving up and down the area, not side to side. This delays her attacks and gives you potion cooldown windows. Set your healing potion to auto-use at ~90% HP, and pop your elixir if your bar starts dipping.

What If You’re Still Stuck?
You’re not alone. This is the first real difficulty spike in the game for F2P players. Here’s what to do if you’re not quite ready:
- Run your dailies
- Clear side content
- Work on gear enhancements
- Consider starting an alt character (to farm gold, gacha tickets, and more chests)
Yes, it’s a grind, but one that pays off. I did this with my Paladin and broke through after about two extra days of prep.
Wrap-Up
Look, I get it. The gap between spenders and F2P in Odin is very real, some players are already two maps ahead. But that’s okay. This isn’t a sprint. The game gives you just enough tools to win, even if it takes a bit of extra work and creativity. So if you’re staring down the Spider Boss and wondering how to keep up: Don’t give up. With the right buffs, potions, positioning, and a little patience, you’ll win this fight just like I did. Up next, why not consider checking out our guide on gear progression in Odin: Valhalla Rising!
