Starfield provides you with bountiful quests, each with their unique rewards and experiences. However, there is one quest that stands out from the rest. This is The Red Mile, which is basically a quest where you can compete with records set out on the leaderboard.

This quest can be a bit tedious at times, and so many players may feel beating the record just may not be worth it. So, in this guide, we will show you the best and quickest way of becoming the Champion of The Red Mile. Then, you’ll have all the bragging rights!

How to Become Champion of The Red Mile

This quest will require you to perform repeated runs of The Red Mile competition. This can be quite tedious, but each run will grant you rewards that can make these runs worth it financially. Here’s the steps you should follow to ensure that you can become Champion in no time:

  1. Start by entering The Red Mile that can be found on Porrima III in the Porrima System.
  2. Enter the establishment and examine The Red Mile Leaderboard to check the record to beat. Donovan Rhys will be at the top with 28, so you will need to complete 29 runs.
  3. Make preparations for your runs by stocking up on Runner’s Rush from the bartender and leveling up the Fitness perk as much as possible.
  4. Speak to Mei Devine and tell her that you are ready to run the Red Mile.
  5. Enter the door after Mei is done announcing your run and make your way to the balcony just before the run starts.
  6. Jump off the balcony and use your boost to cover as much distance as possible.
  7. Run to the pedestal while avoiding the middle section and ignoring attacks from the Maulers.
  8. Activate the pedestal and run back to the starting point to finish the run.
  9. Speak to Mei and she will provide you with rewards, ending your run.
  10. Use the fast travel method to reset the run, so you can run it again.
  11. Repeat the runs until you have completed 29 runs to become the Champion.

This guide continues with a detailed walkthrough down below!

Detailed Walkthrough

Start by traveling to the Red Mile on the Porimma III planet in the Porimma System. When you arrive on the planet, you will immediately see the Red Mile sign on a building in front of you. Move to the right of this sign and you will see another Red Mile sign with a door.

This door will allow you to enter the establishment.

When you enter the establishment, you will find that it has a casino vibe. Make your way towards the Bartender, and you will find some screens standing in front of glass cases with pedestals inside. Walk to the screen and interact with it.

The Red Mile Leaderboard menu will show up, listing the top 5 Red Mile Runners. At the top, you will see Donovan Rhys with a high score of 28. This means that you will need to make 29 successful runs to beat him and become the champion.

Interestingly, you can actually find Donovan Rhys and talk to him. You will find him at the casino tables playing cards. When you talk to him, you will see that he isn’t very humble about his Champion title and will be poking fun at you.

That’s one way to get some motivation to snatch the title from his hands!

The Red Mile is not particularly a challenging task to achieve. However, it can be quite tedious, as you will have to keep repeating it to get successful runs to your name. Therefore, making certain preparations will help you speed up the process and grind.

Start by stocking up on Runner’s Rush, which is a drink you can purchase from the bartender. It is quite affordable and can provide you with stat boosts that can make your runs much quicker and manageable. Here are the stat boosts it provides:

  • +20% Movement Speed for 3m.
  • +50 Damage Resistance for 3m.
  • +25% O2 Recovery for 3m.

Additionally, you should consider getting the Fitness perk. This perf will provide you with additional oxygen that will allow you to run for longer during your runs. Don’t worry if you haven’t leveled it up, you can do so while you’re doing the runs easily.

Once you’ve made the preparations, go down the small flight of stairs near the bartender. Here, you will see a large metallic door with a lady in a red dress walking near it. This is Mei Devine, and she is the one in charge of The Red Mile.

Talk to her and you can tell her that you are willing to do the Red Mile run. After that, she will talk up to the stage on the right, and introduce your run to the people in the area. Once she’s done, the door will open and you can make your way towards the Red Mile outdoor area.

When you enter, follow the path where you will see plenty of signs wishing you luck or warning you that you can turn back. Ignore them, and make your way to the balcony overlooking the Red Mile outdoor area.

This is the point where you consume the Runner’s Rush drink that you stocked up during your preparations. Now, the correct way of doing this run is by going down the stairs to the left and entering the elevator. This elevator will then take you down to the area.

However, this elevator can take a while to get down, which is not only time-consuming but also boring. So, instead, we recommend that you jump!

While you soar through the air, start feathering your boost while moving forward. This technique can allow you to save some time, since you can cover more distance in the arena. Make sure that you have enough boost to feather you fall when you land to prevent yourself from taking damage.

Landing in Red Mile in Starfield.

When you land, immediately get to sprinting while keeping to the left section of the area. This is because the middle section is crawling with Red Mile Maulers. These are monsters in the area, whose attacks will damage and slow you down.

Your goal is to reach the other end of the area where there will be a pedestal you will need to press the button on.

Red Mile Mauler in Starfield.

Fighting them is not worth it because they are quite tanky and do not provide enough XP to justify the hassle. Instead, ignore them and keep moving forward. You may need to stop running to regain your stamina a few times, and this means that you will get attacked by them.

Their attacks can be distinguished as sickly green wisps. They will slow you down significantly but do not get frustrated. Do your best to avoid them and run when your stamina regains.

While running, we recommend that you even jump and use the feathering boost technique when it seems feasible.

Doing so will not only help you avoid the Mauler attacks but also regain stamina for running in the air. This is a great strategy to use as you near the pedestal as the paths will become narrower making it harder to avoid Maulers by simply running.

When you reach the pedestal, press the button and immediately run back to the start of the run. Again, you want to make sure to avoid the middle section because this area has more Maulers.

Since the path you used to reach the pedestal has enemies already alerted, it’s better that you choose the left path when facing the Red Mile starting area.

Again, you can jump off the platform and use your boost to gain some distance and avoid Mauler attacks. When you reach the starting area, open the door to the elevator and activate it to make your up. Walk up the stairs and inside the establishment where Mei will be waiting to congratulate you.

Returning to Red Mile in Starfield.

Return to the Red Mile establishment and walk up to the same screen where the Leaderboard was. This is where Mei will be standing. Talk to her and she will congratulate you for completing the Red Run.

She will give you quite a few rewards which will include:

  • 5300 Credits
  • Infused Bandages
  • Trauma Pack
  • 1-2 Weapons

Some of the weapons she gives you can be very expensive with great stats. In essence, one successful Run can give you about 10,000 Credits worth of rewards. These rewards are quite valuable and can be very useful when playing the rest of the game.

Now, you will need to restart the Run so that you can do it again. The quickest way to do this is by opening your Scanner and selecting the Surface Map option. In the surface map, select the option to Fast Travel To Ship.

When you spawn in your ship, immediately exit the ship and return to the Red Mile. This will reset the Run and you can do it again. While this method may be tedious, it is the quickest method to grind out runs.

Once you’ve completed 29 runs, talk to Mei to unlock your awards. She will congratulate you and deem you the Champion of the Red Mile. You can even check up on the Leaderboard and see your name above Donovan Rhys.

Becoming the Champion of the Red Mile will grant you a unique reward in the form of the Mounted Red Mile Apex. You can hang this trophy up on the wall in your penthouse provided you have the necessary resources.

And there you have it, that’s your guide to becoming Champion of the Red Mile in Starfield. You can even walk up to Donovan Rhys himself and rub the victory in his face. His reaction will make your achievement taste even sweeter!
