The combat mechanics in Starfield are leagues ahead of what Bethesda has ever had in their previous titles. With the addition of several advanced tactics like combat sliding and cover peeking, the fights give an overall smooth and modern feeling.
One such mechanic is leaning while aiming. But how do you even do that when there is no dedicated button to lean? When should you use it? Is it even worth the effort? This guide aims to answer all those questions and more!
How to Lean While Aiming
To lean while aiming in Starfield, all you need to do is stand at the edge of a piece of cover that you want to lean out from (preferably a wall). After that, simply aim down your sights and your character will automatically lean out from the cover over the edge.
This can be performed to lean out from the cover on both sides (left and right) and can even be used to peek over some walls and obstacles that are a bit short.
This gives you a ton of advantage over your enemies as you don’t really have to expose yourself or sometimes even get into their line of sight to get a better firing angle.
When & Why Should You Lean While Aiming
As mentioned previously, leaning out from cover can give you a huge benefit over unsuspecting enemies that are out of cover themselves.
While leaning, only a small portion of your character’s body is visible to the enemies. This makes it harder for them to land a good hit on you whilst giving you a solid line of sight.
This alone can be a tide changer when faced with an overwhelming number of enemies in closed encounter situations. Although keep in mind that your enemies will also seek cover and will occasionally lean out themselves once alerted of your presence.
With that said, you are now one step closer to mastering your combat tactics and gaining the upper hand at every encounter in Starfield! Be sure to check out our guides on Starfield, like How to Use the Jetpack, for more helpful tips and tricks.
