Exploration has always been the strong point in Bethesda games, and their newest game Starfield is no different. With a bunch of planets to explore along with space stations and cities on those planets, there’s so much to see. There are even quests in the game that lets you survey entire planets and see what the different wildlife you can find in them.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to do the Top of The List quest in Starfield. We’ll go through how you can properly survey a planet in the game. Let’s get right into it!
Top of The List – Survey Habitable Planet – How to Survey Planet
The first thing we’ll want to do is find a planet that has Fauna, Flora and water. You can do this by going into a system, hovering over a planet and seeing the information on the left.
What we need is a planet that has a High O2 atmosphere, some Fauna and Flora, and has H20 on its resources. You can use the image below as a reference on what that looks like.
Now that you found a planet filled with life, you’ll want to go and land on it. Pick any place to land but remember the biome you’re landing on the upper right. We’ll need to scan everything from each biome, so make sure to fully scan one at a time.
Once you’re on the ground, you can then start scanning. While doing so, you’ll see how many Flora, Fauna and Resources you’ll need to search on the left side of the screen.
Once you’re done with one biome, then you’ll need to go to a different biome and complete that too. Make sure to keep an eye out on the overall survey bar of the planet.
Remember that you should also check any cave that you can find in the planet. That’s because some resources only spawn on those caves, so you better look around those too.
If you’re missing any animals on your survey and you’ve surveyed all of the biomes, then you might need to check the ocean as well.
There’s not really an “ocean” biome but there are coast biomes that you can see on the image below. Just keep on trying to pinpoint the coasts until you find them and then land on it!
Finding animals in the ocean is one of the annoying parts of surveying in the game but just keep an eye out for them. As you can see from the image below, you don’t even need to touch the water to scan the sea life.
That’s how you fully survey a planet for the Top of the List quest in Starfield. Now go out there and start surveying all sorts of flora and fauna! Make sure to go check out our guide on the Doctor Location in New Atlantis if you haven’t already!
