Genshin Impact always features locations that can be unlocked if you meet the right requirements. Sometimes, those locations, once unlocked, can be changed if you venture deep enough, as well as explore every nook and cranny.
In Genshin Impact’s newest update, you can unlock the Elton Trench underwater cave, which is located in Elton Trench. What can you find in there? Well, certainly not Elton John, but you are welcome to check for yourself. Here is a guide that will show you how to unlock the Elton Trench underwater cave in Genshin Impact.
How to Unlock Elton Trench Underwater Cave
The Elton Trench underwater cave cannot be accessed by normal means, as it is covered by a large wall of rocks. However, the way to open it can be found on the lake that is on the left of Elton Trench. Go there by using the Teleport Waypoint to make it quicker.
Once there, gather all of the Water Volume Detection Crystals in the area. The first one can be found surrounded by enemies. Once you defeat them, grab the Water Volume Detection Crystal and use Transoceanic Chunk to move it towards the chest in the middle.
The second Water Volume Detection Crystal can be found in this statue. Destroy it by using your weapon and it will appear. Use the Transoceanic Chunk to move it towards the middle as well.
The third and final Water Volume Detection Crystal can be found buried underneath thorns. Use the fire flowers near them (or a fire character) to destroy the thorns and free the crystal. Use the Transoceanic Chunk once more to send it to the middle.
Stand in the middle of the three crystals and the chest will open. Make sure you have a Hydro Ring around you to get the crystals to work. Once the chest is opened, open it and you will get your rewards, as well as a way to get into the secret underwater cave in Elton Reach.
You will be transformed into a ball of Hydro that will fly towards the secret underwater cave entrance that only it can break through.
When the Hydro orb breaks the rocks, you will revert back to your normal self and swim into the secret underwater cave that is now unlocked.
However, the work doesn’t stop there. You may have unlocked the secret cave, but it is missing the underwater part. That’s because you will need to unlock this Hydro mechanic that will flood the cave with water. But when you approach it, it will be locked.
To unlock it, you will need to go to the back of the cave until you find these three vases. Break them open to get yourself three Hydro Orbs to form a Hydro Core.
Not far from the three vases, there is a place where you can install the Hydro Core. Install it, and you will need to find two more Hydro Cores to unlock the Hydro mechanism.
Go back to where the locked mechanism is and you will find a Hydro stone. Destroy it and you will get Hydro Orbs that will slowly form into a Hydro Core.
Just to the left of where you found the Hydro stone, you can find a spot where you can install the Hydro Core. Install it there, then turn around.
For the last Hydro Core, there is a lone crate that is near another empty spot where you can install the Hydro Core. Approach it and break it open. You will then find another Hydro Core.
Approach the place where you can install the Hydro Core next to you and install it. You will then unlock the Hydro mechanism.
Go back to the Hydro mechanism and use a Hydro character to attack the Hydro mechanism and then the cave will instantly flood with water, turning it into the underwater cave that you were looking for.
