Some games don’t give you much of a choice in the start when it comes to characters. You’ll need to grind for them or unlock them through Gacha and in The First Descendant, it’s the former that we’ll be doing. Many of the characters in the game need to be unlocked. To do so, you’ll need to find the right research materials to do so and each one needs different things.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to unlock Freyna in The First Descendant. Now, let’s see what you’ll need to grind for, how to get it, and how much you’ll need!

How to Unlock Freyna
Each character in The First Descendant needs you to unlock them for you to use them. You’ll want to try them all out, so you’ll need to know what to do to get them. Most of them will have the same way of unlocking them, but they all require unique items.
Here are the steps we’ll be taking to unlock Freyna:
- Go to the Magister Anais and talk to her.
- Select Research Request to go to the Research window.
- Select the Decendant Tab.
- Find and Select Freyna.
- Get the necessary Research Materials needed.
- Once you have the materials start the research request.
- Wait for the research to finish and get the new character!

Detailed Walkthrough
To start, you’ll want to go to Magister Anais and talk to her. She’ll then have a choice to do Research Requests. Picking this option will send you to the screen where you can research all sorts of stuff, including descendants. Pick that option and go to the Descendant Tab.
Once you’re in the Descendants Tab, go look for Freyna. Once you find her, select that character. The game will show what research materials you’ll need, and most of them you can get through doing different activities in the game.
To know where to find them, just hover over one with your cursor and press X. This will show you what activities you can do to acquire them.
You can also go back to the choices with Anais and pick the Descendant Material Shop. This will send you to a shop where you can buy the research materials to unlock your descendants. For Freyna, these are the materials we’ll need:
- 1 x Freyna Enhanced Cells
- 1 x Freyna Stabilizer
- 1 x Freyna Spiral Catalys
- 1 x Freyna Code
Once you have all the materials, you can go back to Freyna and select the Research Request on the lower right. Doing the research will take a lot of hours, but you can boost the research with currency to make it instant!
