Dead by Daylight has been quite popular among a variety of horror franchise fans. You get the chance to play as some of the most iconic villains and killers. However, this time, we now have access to Springtrap, one of the most requested killers probably in the history of the game. If you’ve also been looking to play this killer, you now have a chance. But Springtrap can be a bit confusing at first, especially because he adds a layer of complexity. So, in this guide, we’ll be going over everything you need to know to master Springtrap. Let’s get into it!
Springtrap Killer Guide
Springtrap is a Killer that will be introduced as part of Chapter 36: Five Nights at Freddy’s in Dead by Daylight. The chapter will release on June 17th. Currently, players can only use him in the Public Test Build (PTB) of the game.
So, it is possible that some of his perks, moves and overall build may change when the chapter is released.
Perks Overview
Starting off, let’s take a look at three perks that Springtrap has to offer in Dead by Daylight:
- Phantom Fear
- When a Survivor looks at Springtrap, they scream and their aura is revealed to the killer for 2 seconds
- This perk has a 60 second cooldown
- Incredibly powerful perk, which might lead to Survivors using stealth perks to counter it
- Help Wanted
- When you damage a generator, it becomes compromised
- After a compromised generator is completed, Springtrap’s basic cooldowns are 25% faster for 60 seconds
- Similar to the Best For Last perk, which was overpowered on a lot of killers
- Haywire
- Exit gate switches with at least 50% progress regress at a rate of 50% of gate opening speed
- While they regress, survivors see the gate lights flicker randomly
- Overall, this is not too strong of a perk.

Springtrap Power Explained
Springtrap is a Killer with a very unique Killer with quite a complex power. In Dead by Daylight, typically, you will find two types of killers:
- Basic M1 Killers
- Move at 115%
- Rely on their basic speed to get close to survivors, like The Trapper
- Special Killers
- Move slower at 110% because they have movement abilities, like The Nurse or The Hag
Springtrap is actually both in this case. He moves a little bit slower so you will need to rely on his Special Ability: Fire Axe.

The Fire Axe is a throwable item similar to The Hunter, except you do not need to reload your axe from lockers. After a few seconds, you can retrieve it. You can use the Fire Axe to damage and injure survivors.
You can also embed the Axe into players, which prevents Survivors from healing until they pull it out. Furthermore, the axe also has a little radius for Killer’s Instinct. if you miss the Axe Throw and the enemy is within the radius, you will be able to see them.

Springtrap also offers a really exciting ability by interacting with his unique map feature: Security Systems. Throughout the map, you will find 7 security doors that randomly spawn. Some of these can also be near generators.
Survivors and Springtrap can both interact with these doors. Springtrap can interact with this door and is able to cycle through all the other doors in the map. You can select any other door, and automatically teleport out of it.
This allows Springtrap to compensate for his slow movement speed and teleport around the map.

You may be wondering what happens if both the Survivor and Springtrap are inside the Security Room. In this situation, a really cool animation plays out where Springtrap jumps out of the door and immediately grabs the Survivor.
This puts the Survivor immediately in a dying state on Springtrap’s shoulder.

Another cool feature of Springtrap’s Fire Axe is that there is a different animation when you grab the Axe from a Survivor directly. Let’s assume you already have a Fire Axe embedded into an enemy. If you manage to catch up to them, and grab the axe it plays a different animation.
Springtrap pulls out the axe and is able to immediately put the Survivor on his shoulders in a dying state. It saves his from having to down the Survivor and pick them up which can be useful to prevent certain Perks.

Survivor’s Strategy (And How To Counter It)
It’s important to understand the Survivor’s POV when facing Springtrap so that you can counter their strategies. Starting off, you must understand that Survivors can also use the Security System to their advantage.
When Survivors interact with a security door, they enter the Security Room. In the Security Room view, they can see cameras attached to all the doors. This allows them to see if the coast is clear and find Springtrap’s position.
If Springtrap is detected on the camera, his aura will be revealed to all the Survivors on the map for a couple of seconds. However, Survivors have a limited amount of time they can interact with the Security System as there is limited power.
So, they will need to watch out for the battery.

Springtrap can actually somewhat counter this with his Fire Axe. As the killer, you should use the Fire Axe and throw it on cameras occasionally. This will disable the camera and prevent the Survivors from detecting you.
The disable is only temporary and will last until the axe is embedded into the cameras. Once you remove it, the security system will come back online after a bit.
A great strategy is to throw the Fire Axe on the camera if you plan on being in its vicinity for a bit. Once you’re done with the area, you can simply retrieve the axe.

Another thing that Survivors can do to counter you is remove the Fire Axe that is embedded inside them. They can do this themselves or even use other Survivors to help them. Your goal will be to prevent this by rushing on them and grabbing them, so you can immediately get them in the dying state.
Survivors cannot blind you with a flashlight during the grab animation – so be sure to take advantage of that.
