Deep Rock Galactic: Advanced Engineer Guide

Deep Rock Galactic is probably one of the best co-operative FPS games out there, and it’s done so by just being a good game, something that some Triple A developers have forgotten how to do. It’s a simple game at first but it can be quite complex with all the builds the game’s 4 classes can show you. Each class has their role in the game, from the Digger digging directly into the drop pod, the gunner asking a resupply 2 minutes into a mission, the scout that’s fighting their rival fall damage and the engineer using the platform gun to make happy faces on the walls. In this guide we’ll show you some advanced tips for the Engineer!

Advanced Engineer Guide For Deep Rock Galactic

So you know how to play the basics of the Engineer. You have your two weapons, a turret and a platform gun, as well as a dance grenade. You’ve probably done a few missions already and have unlocked some of the other weapons for the Engineer like the SMG or the Breach Gun. When you get to that point you’ll see that there’s a lot more options for the Engineer, so let’s go through them. We’ll start with the weapons that every loadout has.

LMG Gun Platform

Also known as the turret, this is usually the one item in the Engineer Kit that I always forget I have. You can have either one strong turret or two slightly weaker turrets. You can also upgrade it to have quick deploy if you like playing as a combat Engineer in Team Fortress 2 where you always redeploy your turret.

The last couple of upgrades can either be a buff to the turret damage or the Hawkeye system that makes it have higher range. I personally take the latter so it can cover a large area if I remember to place it down.

Platform Gun

The next piece of kit you have is the Platform gun, also known as the safety foam or the thing that the scout always asks you to use. This is the engineer’s “mobility” item. You can make short bridges with it, a staircase to a higher area, or with the level 2 upgrade an emergency landing pad since it reduces fall damage.

I usually bring maximum ammo since this thing can be extremely useful in both solo and coop and you don’t want to run out of it and be the first one to ask for a resupply. You can also unequip the second upgrade and say you do have it to your unsuspecting teammates!

Grenades

The Engineer like the other classes has 4 different grenades. The one your start off is already pretty good since it’s a literal lure that you can throw to keep the bugs away. Want to make the Praetorian or Oppressor look the other way? Use the lure and watch as the big bug presents its weak spot to you!

The Plasma Burst grenade is usually the one that not a people like. It has it’s uses though and can be easily used to clear waves or deal massive damage, as long as you throw it right.

The Proximity mine is for the people who likes to really be a combat engineer, throw them around an area you know the enemies will go through and watch them explode.

The S.S.G. is the newest grenade and by far my favorite. I like to pair it with the LOKI Smart Rifle since both have the same idea. Why Aim if your grenade goes to the enemy? Throw an SSG on the ground and it’ll turn into ripper drones that will attack anything around you for a short time.

Weapons and Loadouts

There are 3 primary weapons and 3 secondary weapons for each class. You might think that’s too few, but then you learn that each one has different mods. Not to mention different Overclocks for those who have a promoted class already. Then you can see how complex the weapons of Deep Rock Galactic is. Going through all the weapons and possible mods can take a whole novel of theory-crafting so for now we point you towards our Engineer build guide for more information.

Congratulations, with this information you can now go further into your career as a Combat-Engineer-Miner in Deep Rock Galactic. Now go out there, place your platforms, shoot your nukes and sometimes remember that you have a turret!
